New very happy owner

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

Just picked up my 57 plate Octavia VRS TDI 170 in black and after battling my way home in the snow i am very happy with it.

Looking to do a few mods on the car and have just ordered the following items from superskoda

Full front and rear LED dome kit, gear shift knob with RS design 6M and climatronic button rings.

The car has a fairly standard spec and wondered how easy it would be to upgrade the following items;

Fit an auto dimming rear view mirror, cruise control and upgrade the head unit to a bolero.

The car has the stream mp3 fitted and also a parrot handsfree kit which is great but fancy something a bit better. Possibly go for the bolero hu.

CD changer in the boot seems to be knackered also for some reason....

Also tempted by daylight running lights but want them to look like they are meant to be there if that makes sense rather than stand out as non standard ones.

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Just a thought on your drls.

I have had my side lights & fog lights coded as drls, so as soon as the ignition is on they come on.

Work fine for me & in my opinion look loads better than fitting aftermarket ones. If you get led bulbs fitted in them as well, hey presto - factory fitted led drls!

By the way welcome to vrs ownership.

Welcome Tex to Briskoda :hi:

Make sure it's had all four injectors replaced under the Skoda UK recall.

I hate aftermarket LED DRL's, however if you want to try to look as OEM as possible then you can replaced the front fog lights with the LED DRL's from the Fabia vRS and Octavia Scout (straight fit), you then need to set the front fog lights to act as DRL's using VCDS.

Cruise control is an easy retrofit. Just a new indicator stalk with cruise control buttons are required, and someone with VCDS to activate it.

Auto dimming rear view mirror is in theory easy. Just an auto mirror, and a front light sensor required (this sits behind the mirror on the windscreen) but I'm not sure if the wiring is in place for both these items. They would also need activating in VCDS.

As for fitting a Bolero, it shouldn't present any problems.

If you want DRL's, as suggested I'd look at replacing the front fogs with units with DRL's fitted.....they'll look so much better than any after market kits.

Hi folks.

Thanks for the replies.

Defo think your right on the Scout fog light drl's as they look nice on Superskoda and are not a bad price either. Do you need to do much to the wiring to get working correctly or do you just plug in and go?

I have found a cruise kit on ebay for £70 so will get that ordered and then try and find someone fairly local with VCDS who can sort the cruise and the DRL's in one go.

I might for go the auto dimming mirror and just have tints fitted at the back as it solves that issue easily and also keeps prying eyes out of the rear of the car.

Gave the car a bit of a leg stretch last night in the early hours coming back from Sheffield. Very impressed with the performance and stability at higher than normal speeds.

I have also managed to get my iphone running through the Stream mp3 hu as found an aux jack in the armrest and it plays through that. Quite a bit of sound interference but only when its on at low volume.

Very happy so far!! :hi:

Think youll find with the auto dim mirror (if going OEM) that youll need a new windscreen as its specific to the light/rain sensor that the mirror unit comes with.

Can be done but understand its a ballache and will prove expensive. Wouldnt bother myself.

Boot cd changer probably hasn't been reconnected properly when parrot kit was fitted, this was the issue I found when I got mine.

Just fitted some new headlight bulbs over the standard ones and they are a great improvement.

I went for the Osram H7 Nightbreaker Plus Headlight Bulb

They are a huge improvement over the standard bulbs giving much better depth and a much whiter light.

I got them off ebay for £12.45 and cant recommend them enough.

Was this easy to rectify and i take it that its the fitting at the hu that needs looking at??

Welcome big_tex_uk. Nice choice of car :) Would you mind posting a link to those bulbs please? Ta

My boot changer also stopped working after fitting a parrot kit, took it back to halfords and after another 2hrs they found they had connected a wire the wrong way round when installing the SOT lead!

Works find now although I never use it due to bluetooth steaming on the parrot :-)
