Hi all I have noticed with the cold weather that I am getting a short grinding noise when I set off on a patch of ice, doesn't continue when I drive off tho... Any clues

Has your car got ASR fitted?

Yes

Left wheel seems to be way quieter when it slides, the right side (drivers) is a horrid loud grind

Means it has less grip; it's just your traction control kicking in

Why would one side be worse??? As left wheel spins silently

No idea to be honest. I've only managed to get mine to kick i during the snow snow far so couldn't offer any further insight. Remember that if one side is being braked by the TC, then the power is going to go to that wheel so it'll be making less noise. I trust you've had a good look round and checked to make sure that there's nothing obviously catching rubbing?
