Bluetooth - OEM or Fiscon

Featured Replies

Thanks all! It's never simple is it?

I'll see what Ben @ Shark quotes tomorrow for OEM as I'll be near Mansfield in two weeks' time.

I'll take it from there.

Cheers.

IIRC it's £460.00 for unit supplied and fitted.

Sarge.

  • Ok cheers. Ross Tech agrees with you too, seems like its a C revision that first gives HFP for this module (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Telephone_Retrofitting).

The OEM ones will not do everything you want on that list for pre fl.

5N0=maxidot

5K0=audio streaming but no track names

Personally if you have columbus or bolero maxidot isnt an issue for displaying phone data.

rsap will use an extra gsm ariel and in theory uses the module as the phone. you can see texts with them too but not many phones support it. And texts whilst driving...no, unless you enable text to speak etc.

anyone know if the 5P0 will work on the FL bolereo with an iphone 5?

text messages in the maxidot

I wonder which VAG exec signed that off.

Ouch! Thanks Sarge. More than I thought.

You can get them for less, and if you have some level of technical skill you can fit it yourself

Pay no more than £200 for all parts including the mic. Grizzles link has the complete kit with OEM mic for voice control.

Fitting isn't hard, it's far far harder to fit and wire in the Auto headlight switch.

Sarge is spot on, I enquired with Shark after I bought my Scout and that figure rings true for them to supply and fit (think I blanked if from my memory) - in my world that equates to mega expensive!

only an idiot would read one while driving, it also reads them out

To be fair only an idiot would hold the phone whilst driving, or text whilst driving, but they are seen every day on the roads. What having it on MaxiDot does is give them an easier route to being an idiot.

Andy, 5N0 in the estate has full Columbus integration, plus full maxidot as well.

Mike

But isnt it rSAP only Mike?

I need HFP.

What revision is your 5N0?

Think the later revisions of 5N0 (D or E) support HFP too.

Harder to find online than they were though, www.carsystems.pl seem to have run out and less about on eBay than there were. Interesting to see it works with maxidot though - Mike was it just a swap of module and coding?

Cheers

Adam

Cheers Mike does the B revision support HFP?

I'll confirm about the C revision after the weekend hopefully. Apparently a C revision supports A2DP as well, but it seems a bit too good to be true if it does, as it also supports both type of Maxidot (DDP & BAP).

Have you sourced one reasonably then Andy? Can you share the link if so?

Adam

Picked it up privately, hopefully trying it in Mike's car at the weekend as he has the wiring in already :-)

Good luck with that then - be interested in the results.

All, thank you very much for your thoughts / advice / banter / technical know-how!

I have now spoken to Shark Performance - Tony Priestley.

They have strongly advised to stick to the OEM kit as the Fiscon has apparently led to 'issues'.

In my situation - i.e. planning to keep the car for a while and wanting full Columbus and Maxidot functionality - it seems that OEM is the way ahead.

Shark have quoted £400 supplied and fitted incl. VAT. This is reduced from their previous price of £460 due to the OEM kit from the factory now coming to them more cheaply.

I have to say (I imagine in common with many others on here) that I was extremely impressed with the service and know-how from Shark on the phone. I'm booked in for early Feb. The challenge is now to avoid being talked into adding Stage 1 at the same time!

I've already warned them not to try to tempt me!!

Cheers,

Dunc

BTW I'm sure they'll be those telling me that I could halve the cost by going eBay and self-fitting - I get that, but I haven't got the time to either buy or fit at the moment and can (just) afford to have someone do it for me. Two small kids does change everything!!!!

Yep, no problem Andy. It's a 20 second job to swap module boxes over. See you Sunday.

Did you manage to test the c revision in the end gents?

Ok guys. Went to Shark today and was very well looked after by Ben & Tony.

OEM bluetooth system installed. Everything double-checked and explained before I paid.

Great system. Very clear sound, huge functionality via Columbus or Maxidot and even BT music streaming.

Thanks guys! See you for a Stage 1 next Summer!

Cheers,

Gave it a good test and unless I have missed something, it looks like ross-tech have it wrong in their matrix, the rev c does not support A2DP or HFP.

The Columbus gains the Bluetooth icon, but I tried 2 phones and my laptop, and none of them could see any A2DP service available.
