Over-revving my 1.6 102bhp Octy

Featured Replies

Had a scary moment this morning, turned onto a dual carriageway, couldn't work out why the poor girl didn't seem to want to go faster than about 65mph, looked down and noticed that the rev counter was just over 5000, then noticed that I was still in third gear! I had a CD playing loudly so didn't hear the engine screaming. Yikes!

So the question is:

Did it do my poor machine any harm? Just over 3 years old, 50k miles on the clock, normally driven quite politely at low revs (to keep the mpg as high as poss). I heard the other month about "the Italian tune up", and think I might just have done this.

Any thoughts, folks?

Should be just fine, might wel have done it some good, given it a good clear out and actually got the cat hot...lol.

Nope , won't do any damage redlining a car briefly , and 5k still gives you plenty of room before you hit the limiter.

Don't worry about it.

Bouncing off the rev limiter on a bike is an interesting experience mined-ewe :D

Its redlined at 6250, so shouldn't do any harm - just the equivelent of a brisk piece of overtaking.
