Headlight full beam adjustment

Featured Replies

I've suddenly become aware that while my headlights are dipped they shine exactly where I think they should and have a good accurate beam. However when I select full beam the illumination seems to project too high up and doesn't help in seeing anything on the road ahead other than the trees and hedges. There appears to be a significant gap between the dipped illumined area and the area lit up by full beam. How do I adjust the full beam to shine slightly lower so it gives me a more consistent light beam?

Not sure if this may help as I thought I had a similar problem.

With the dipped beam level switch set to 0 the flood beam matched it for continuous coverage between the two.

With the switch set to 4 there is an obvious gap between the two beam patterns & coverage.

What is yours set on? Or do you have auto levelling?

Seems to be a wide spread problem as mine are too. There have been several inquires about dip beam being too low, which would seem to be the problem dealt with by adjusting to the opposite extreme.

Recently someone posted it was a deliberate ploy to illuminate road signs/gantries. WT????

Not looked to see if the hi/lo beams are adjustable independently, but suspect not. Unless someone out there knows different?

The FL headlights are adjustable for height, I adjusted mine for the same reason. I don't know about the pre FL but it will be worth a look

Great thanks very much, adjusted them now.

On a pre FL the two adjusters facing forwards are for dipped beam, height and left/right.

The main beam height adjuster is at the rear of the light unit.

Skoda Octavia- 2 Pre-FL version, Headlight Adjustment for:

1) Low Beam

a) Height up/down

B) Sideways Left/Right.

2) High Beam.

a) Height Up/down

B) Sideways left/Right

(Adjustment for High Beam sideways has not been mentioned in posts previously)

You will need a Allen key to adjust Low beam Height & Sideways L/R and for High beam Height adjustment only.

You will need a small Flat head Screwdriver to Adjust High beam Sideways L/R Only.

Refer to the picture for instructions.

Well you learn something new, didn't know the main beam left to right was adjustable!

So basically that diagram says on it you CAN also adjust Xenon headlights with diagnostic setup. Right?

I have had people tell me not to do it because you need to set the car into diagnostic mode before any changes are made, however I have fiddled on several occasions with these adjustments to no problems, also had my car MOT'd recently and they adjusted the low beams for me as it would have been a fail, said slightly to far left.
