ECU damaged by Faulty coil pack

Featured Replies

Anyone else experienced this ?

One of the lads rang me yesterday to tell me his his coil pack had failed. He had to wait a few days before the part came in, there was some other issues with it but when he went to bring it in to get fixed it wouldn't start. Turns out the Coil pack must have shorted and blown the ECU.

This is an absolute joke that Skoda haven't replaced known bad ones, in this case they would have saved themselves the price of an ECU. Whats even worse is that there was none in stock to replace the dead coil pack.

Nah, a coil pack going killed the ECU ? I don't believe it. But then I'm no mechanic.

Are you related to Victor Meldrew ? :)

Not heard of it before, but in theory it is possible, the ECU is connected to the coil pack, its what fires it. So in theory a dead short on the communication wire could damage the ECU.

It does bit the question, Has anyone got uprated / replaced their coil packs? If so how much? (and how easy is it to do?)
