Remap question

Featured Replies

So basically I have a fabia vrs all I have had done so far is lowered and green cotton panel filter and I'm after a remap. I'm thinking of going to awesome gti, is there any one that has any reviews on the place?

Also is it a good idea to map it standard for things like the breaks, turbo, clutch and any other areas it may effect and were do I stand with insurance?

Any help would be good

No need for brake/ clutch etc upgrades for a Stage 1 remap. Insurance should be informed if you make any mods. Increased fuel economy sshould outweigh the extra insurance in the long run.

Personally, as the standard vRS brakes aren't that brilliant anyway, i would change them over to the 312mm brake set-up just for added piece of mind. Though it depends on how hard you drive your car as well and if you plan on tracking it at all.

Thank you ill go for a remap then :)

Is there any whoa used awesome gti before?

awesome gti are cheap but their maps are smokey and very agressive, bad on the clutch/flywheel/turbo. (So ie read anyway)

I used Shark myself but i know a few people have gone to Awesome and i was tempted myself. Have a search around and i'm sure you'll find a few threads about remaps and which are the best/worst and the reasons.

Have a look at blacksmoke maps, Currently researching maps to. Its nice and cheap and more importantly only 165bhp and 280 lb/ft or torque, not aggressive like the awesome map.

Pick a company that will not go for MAX figures but driveability, i went with angel purely because im busy and there mobile, 175bhp and 295lbs/ft, just under the parameters for the turbo or clutch letting go and its a nice smooth map! alot better to drive than standard

Alnwick 30 mile north of Newcastle

remap science in bradford have done both mine - no issues at all - if you cant get to them they will come to you !!

Craig Awesome are cheap but it's not the most refined and the torque spike on dyno plots I've seen posted is too aggressive for the clutch, go with Ben at Shark Performance, the map is smooth, enough that you'd think it was factory refined and not smokey, it's not just a basic generic map like black smoke. The down side is you pay a bit more. Personally for the 2hr drive from you I'd drive down to Nottingham to Shark HQ but they've now got resellers who may be closer or if you aren't in a hurry they usually have an offer in for the STS units free so it can be mapped or unmapped whenever you want.

Also notify your insurer, some will say 'no' but it's rare, some will have a flat rate increase for x% of power increase.

Maybe eventually the dual mass flywheel will fail if you drive it hard. This will take a fair few thousand miles though and can be prevented for a while by not accelerating hard under 2000rpm. Other than that they are pretty bomb proof

Thank you all for the help has given me a lot to think about

We have a dealer who is just about to start in Alnwick (Christon Bank to be precise). They will be active from the beginning of February if that helps you at all!

I have a feeling that's going to cost me money sooner rather than later :D

I can only apologise!
