Panic moment - Keys in car

Featured Replies

So I were fitting a new pollen filter outside my house and to check it were fitted right and I were not getting any whistling coming from the air filter compartment I lent over from the passengers side and started the car.

Before i put my head under the passengers side foot well again as a habit I pressed the lock all doors button on the drivers door. Carried on with what I were doing and completed the job. Got my head out of the foot well and got the box it came in and went to put it in the boot but whilst doing this I shut the passengers door!

Walked round to the boot and it were locked so I walked round to the drivers door to get ready to press the unlock button on the side of the door to release the boot and all the doors were locked and the car was on!!!!

Ran upstairs to get my spare key and tried unlocking the door using the button and the car did nothing.. I really were panicking then! Just before I were about to ring the breakdown I released I could use the key in the drivers door!

Let this be a warning to all! Luckily I were outside my house so I had a spare key to hand. I would of been very red faced if i were elsewhere without my spare key to hand!

A useful tip is to tape a spare to somewhere under the car. Not that easy with the Fabia, but a cable tie can hold one (or a box) above the undertray and still accessible by breaking the tie.

So now you have just told everyone you have a spare key under your car above the undertray?

Been in a car hijack before bud so its something I automatically do. Very scary situation to be in and they ended up with corsa. I don't live in a high crime area but it happened :\

Why couldn't you just open the passenger door again?

pressing the lock button locks all doors + the passenger when you shut the door...

Its funnier when your say at a big car show, do abit of track time... keep the car on after to let it cool a little and shut the door and its a SEAT so for some reason it decides to auto-lock with the engine running.

Now thats some Auto Emocion!

Yeah not right good - I wont be making that mistake again :)

Well I work for Skoda as a apprentice mechanic and we always leave 1 window down if the keys are left in the car because Skoda's can actually lock then selves while running just a little tip :)
