999phoooch,

i did not see anyplace in the posts any idea when the car left your ownership, and from the OP it sounded like a slightly used and abused vehicle.

Actually the OP does make it sound as tho the 2 weeks since it left you were quite hard ones.

No offence meant on your stewardship of the vehicle, i was replying on the information being given in the posts and generally about buying vehicles where vague information is available on them.

No offence taken, but as I stated in my other post the description given did not sound in anyway like the car I had owned and cherished for 2 years.

I think sometimes the condition of car is based on assumptions rather than facts.

Hearing things like the car obviously needs a service because the coolant was low & the oil sludgy, when the car had been fully serviced 2 weeks prior. Little things like the £6 chrome trim on the gear knob have detracted from what is a cracking car.

I have no vested interest in this car now, but needed to put the record straight on this one :)

Pooch, the care you have taken was not immediately evident. It is a good car but on principle, I don't like being brow beaten. If Hortons had given the correct info on servicing date and mileage and it was presented in a clean state, with a gentler and moe informative sales pitch I would have been the new owner yesterday. Thanks for letting me know.

Redboy, have you considered making a counter-offer?

Now that you know the history of the car, then a large element of risk is removed and you might end up with a bargain.

Bloody too right aswell, Cheecky swines.

YOUR money YOUR choice. Well done Sir.

TBH if I was sat in a showroom and a dealer put on a video and buggered off then (unless I was deperate for that car, was a stinking deal etc) I'd probably be gone when the berk came back.......

Fresh clean golden syrup coloured oil can turn black within only a few miles.

More so on diesel's but possible also in petrol engines. When the old black oil is dropped a fair amount of it remains in the engine. This then mixes with the new oil and changes it's colour as soon as the engine is run.

Coolant showing at LOW doesn't mean it was low. I had a proper scare when I got my Fabia, after trading in my Superb (that had had 2 water pumps go), as it sits at low unless you check it as per the owner's manual (run the negine to temp etc).

Oil could change black quick (as silver1011 says).

Scruffiness might just be from it being a hack for 2 weeks - I would expect the car to be cleaned, detailed and serviced (if necessary), as a matter of course.

It sounds like the info for the car was "lost" between one dealer and the next, so they blagged you into it, as you were keen to take it off their hands before it had gone through the prep phase. It's still bad salesmanship, but it's their loss, as I'm sure you'll find another soon enough.
