Rear bumper removal ?

Featured Replies

OK, so I've bought the parking sensors and I'm ready to fit them ... but how the f*** do you get the rear bumper off an estate?

I've also tried to remove the loading area trim where the hatch closes, and even when the two plastic screws are removed I can't budge it.

Some help folks please before I go back to smart cars in a sulk :(

WOT ! and pay their service charges

Loading area trim is held by 6 strong spring clips as well as the screws with plastic nuts. Take the spare wheel out to give yourself more room. Lift the trim upwards and into the car.

Likewise the vertical panels covering the tail ights. Three clips with a high 'ping factor'.

If the estate bumper is like my hatchback one, there will be two screws under each tail light, plus the exterior ones you can see (some underneath). Then there's a clip each side holding the bumper in place when all fixtures are removed. Needs a firm tug to release these, but they are handy when refitting because the clips will take the whole weight of the bumper while you fit the screws.

I have to say I'm very impressed with the pictures Stu, thanks for taking the effort to post them. That looked like a very neat job you've done on your vRS too.

On the smartclub site there are downloadable PDF files for frequently asked jobs like this, has anyone thought about doing similar here? These pictures are so good they're just asking for it.

Bryan, the loading bay trim survived my 16st pulling power yesterday so I thought I was doing something wrong.

Do I need to remove the hatch sealing strip, or just pull vertically?

Thanks gents.

The pictures were taken when Superted and I fitted them to his SWMBO's VRS. I had mine fitted at the dealer as part ofthe deal when I bought the car but I still have a set in the cupboard to do SWMBO's car. Superted took the pics too.

I bought the domain fabia-vrs.com with the intention of putting all these things on it but as ever time and skill elude me!!

There are some very good how to's already on Briskoda http://www.briskoda.net/cms/bc/Site_Guides/

The trim has has some pretty strong spring clips!!

Two self-tapping screws, two plastic nuts and six clips are all I can find holding it in place.

If you ease the rubber seal away you may be able to get a lever beneath the trim to ease it upwards - mind the paintwork.
