1.4 16v engine

Featured Replies

Hello...

Please bear with me as I don't venture into this part of the forum much. In fact I think this is may be my first post in the Octavia 2 so I am feeling a little nervous.

I would like to ask, rather than believing the mpg figures in the brochure, how many mpg urban and on the motorway (70mph) can be expected from the 1.4 16v (non tsi)?

edit: I am aware performance is slow, on paper it is 0-60 in around 14.3 secs. Has anyone any experience how it compares in performance to a Fabia 1.2 70bhp (0-60 in 14.9secs)? Does the octavia with this engine struggle to move with 4 passengers?

Thank you very much.

I had the 1.2TSI octy for a loan car and that did great on fuel for what it was but a naturally aspirated engines dont have the boost to propel it along like the other obviously do.

Realistically i wouldt be expecting anymore then say 40-45mpg providing your sat cruising at 70mph, not going up and down speeds over taking people.

Also with four passengers, just like any car, more weight to move requires more fuel. Tbh if you do alot of motorway driving you've bought the wrong engine.

First, sorry for my English which is not my mother language and I don't live in UK but in SE Europe. Few months ago I rented and drove an Octavia II 1.4 for about 800 km (500 miles) mostly outside of the cities with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The displayed average consumption was 6.0 litres/100 km. We were only two persons in the car with our luggage and my feeling was that this car is not so "lazy" as I expected. If you drive normally it is absolutely OK. However, if you need rapid acceleration you have to go in the higher rpm zone (over 5000 rpm).
