A mate has a 2 year old VRS TFSi which has done 39k miles.(mostly mapped)

He has started experiencing a problem, when accelerating in 4th. 5th and 6th gear, when he puts his foot down sometimes the revs rise and no acceleration happens, then another time it will accelerate as normal.

He has it booked in with Skoda and they think it might be clutch, which will be £1K to replace as its not under warrenty, which he is ok with.

We were just wondering if it could be anything else as it doesn't happen in 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

If it is clutch, what's the best options for replacement none oem.

Sounds like clutch to me

Try cg motorsport ive used them a few times excellant service and prices

Clutch issues tend to start in higher gears under hard acceleration as the car is harder to propel in higher gears.

Wow, is that how much Skoda dealers charge to change a clutch? £1,000!?

If it's two years old it will be a TSI and should be under warranty.

Perhaps the OP means his friend has had it for two years?

Or that he has accepted that the fact that it is mapped will negate a warranty for his clutch.......

£1000 for a clutch!??!? - When I learned to drive I was taught engine braking - one of the reasons was simple: as a single clutch plate was far cheaper than 4 brake pads. Back then £17 for a clutch plate and £12 X 4 for brake pads.

£1000!?

The car is two years old, unfortunately clutch comes under wear and tear, and as it's mapped wouldn't be covered anyway,

Dealer is going to try for some goodwill from Skoda, but hes not getting his hopes up.

And £1K is what they charge for a clutch, ouch.

Hence the Question what are the other options non oem?

Bloody hell, that sounds expensive!! What should you be paying at an indy to get that work done, cos I doubt i'll be using a dealer when mine needs changing, and i've changed clutches in cars before and never want to do one again! :giggle:

I would try Cg motorsport first for quote.

Im think its Andy from Cg who is on here so hopefully he will pick up on this post

May pay to ask a mod if they can edit your title to specify its about a Clutch..

My mate has just poped in and the clutch is the least of his worries now as he has just been rear ended!!

So its off to the insurance company and then he's selling!!

He's one of these people that once hes had somthing go wrong or a bump he changes his car, So ive to look out for a S3 at work.

Thanks for everyones input.
