Front wiper issue

Featured Replies

I'm currently having an issue with the front wipers on a 2002 fabia comfort estate.

Firstly, I have checked fuse 15 and 41, they are fine.

The front wipers do not work on any setting, there is power at the yellow/ green wire but there is no earth at the brown/black. I have found if the wiper body or an extra earth is run from the brown/black the wipers will work on the fastest setting only but not return to the stop position.

The rear wiper works and when I pull the wash wipe the washer motor works but the wipers don't.

I have changed the motor and the CCM module twice but it still won't work so I am now at a loss as to why it refuses to work.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before it drives me insane!

Looking at the circuit diagram:

Is fuse 32 OK?

The earth from the wiper motor goes to a point under the centre console in front of the gear stick, could be loose!

Probably worth checking the multi plug to the electrical system control unit as the wiring goes directly between the wiper multi plug and the ESCU.

Have you checked the wiper switch?

Thanks for the reply!

Have continutity checked all the fuses and just double checked that but everything else works so I don't think there is an issue with the x contact relay either.

I have tried 3 different ccm's and the multiplugs click in firmly so can't go wrong with that.

I couldn't find the measuring block for the wiper switch on vcds but I can hear the relays clicking in the ccm when I move the stalk and it works on full speed when the motor is earthed so I'm fairly sure that is ok.

I don't think E3 is loose as everything else that uses E3 still works.

Just to note I swaped the engine loom over and the wipers worked before but there is power getting to the plug is just has no earth not to mention the section of loom at goes from the bulkhead to the wiper is about 4" long so nothing can get damaged.....I feel something else is afoot here.

Any more ideas?

Getting to the point where I am going to scrap the car which is a shame as its only done 40k odd.

I've had the centre console out looking for the earth point but it certainly isn't in front of the gear stick.

I have noticed the interior lights stay on if they are in the door position regardless of the door being closed and the light in the front ash tray does not work.

Tried to get an auto electrician to look at it but nobody will touch it so its looking like the scrap yard will be getting a new addition.

Could the x contact relay effect all settings?
