whats the ASG gearbox like?

Featured Replies

My wife loves her ASG Citigo, and that really means something,as she's quite fussy and speaks her mind.

so what is the ASG like to drive?

how does it compare to DSG?

anyone had any annoyances or problems with it?

As we have now had our ASG for the last 2 years I will try to answer the questions posed

To drive I find the gearbox fun & dynamic in its ratios........ and as i have written in many other posts its a gearbox where the driver (who enjoys driving) needs to understand the technology and how to get the best out of it for the drive of the Citigo.

Most people are really used to a mechanical automatic box, driving this type of automatic dosnt take any great deal of skill and the usability has been around since finding electricity. Yes there are the dual clutch automatic (such as dsg) which are very refined and most probably at the cutting edge....... but IMHO if you are not putting out in excess of 200bhp then these gearboxes are slightly wasted on the average joe.

So an ASG gearbox is not Satan  , its a perception that it has to be a DSG or dual clutch gearbox.......... when it clearly inst and as explained it robotised gearbox and it has its purpose considering its main application of being city car etc....

Annoyances?! Yes 3rd could do with a few more rpm, the change from say reverse to drive needs to be considered and a couple of seconds wait....... but to a DSG owner this would feel like lunar rotations :peek:

If you specify your citigo with the ASG gearbox i would suggest you make sure you have the standard (not greentech or sports suspension) as the drive is much more graceful over our not so great UK roads....... at the end of the day the citigo is a good steer so the trade off is worth doing

Good luck
