Whats the True BHP ?

Featured Replies

An ST170 shouldnt be underestimated even for a remapped vRS owner.

in a 0-100 sprint there is virtually nothing in it (believe me I have tried very hard to get by one) - 2 car lengths at the most to the furby and on cornering you can kiss goodbye to that 2 length lead you have. They stick to the road like Glue!

Private track roundabout near me - vRS (springs/strut brace) max speed 40 mph

ST170 55 mph and still going!

You need an uphill - they really suffer then :D

I kept up with an ST170 in my little piddly 112 bhp Golf :D (up to 70 leptons). He seemed rather annoyed that he couldnt shake me from his rear view mirror ;) And those corners present no problems either :P

I'm probably alone in my views but I really don't rate the Focus, either on performance or handling.

Having done over 3000miles in our 100bhp TDCi car at work I absolutely hate it, it's slow (couldn't overtake a van coming off a roundabout!), the tyres squeal constantly in dry weather when cornering and my exit speeds are considerably slower than the Furby, it's also unstable at high speeds.

BTW, it's only 13 months old!

I wouldn't buy one ever, especially considering what the reasonable spec ones cost.

i have a dragon box on mine, set at level 16. 0-60 (using the free fastcar stop watch for ya stearing wheel. quite good really) 7.4 i would say around 7 really becaue a bit of time was taken starting and stopping the clock. have done just under 7 once.

Another thing people fail to understand on power is exactly where the power is, a car with less power but with a wider spectrum of usable power can have a distinct advantage over the higher powered car, also where acceleration is being compared you should really be looking at the torque figures rather than the horsepower.

Couldn't agree more - the best remap (unless all you are after is the highest bhp you can get from the engine ;)) is the one with the greatest area under the torque/power curves :D

A wise man speaks ;)

Have heard in the past that the true BHP of the vRS is around 145 although it is listed as 130' date='

0-60 9.6, I dont have any fancy gadgets but on a flat road I timed it with a stopwatch (ok I agree not very accurate) around 8.3 (3 runs)

Am just about to fit a Dragon digital, so does anyone know what difference this will make?[/quote']

If the stories of killing M3's and Evo's that are posted up regulary in here are anything yo go by I reckon a strandard Furby must be pushing in the region of about 400bhp ;)

on top gear the other month a fiat stilo beat a evo V11 from 30mph to 50 in 4th.!

I think it was the Evo 8 FQ400 and it was a total load of old tosh, they played on the massive turbo lag of the EVO ... IIRC...

indeed, anyone who understands what turbo lag is deliberatly drives so you dont feel it, but they delibarately drove so you really did - all for comic effect though, and it ws amusing...

BTW the pitcure of your scooby on the board you are selling is stunning..

Geez big deal, if you drive your EvoVII like that then you don't deserve it and are totally missing the point. What they also forgot to mention was the Fiat then had to pop back to the dealer for a service before if fell apart.

Iv'e swapped my Octy RS for a 2.0L tdi and can tell you the RS was much quicker when driven properly using the red line. The new octy however has much more mid range and so feels quicker, but it isn't and over the ton is just off the pace.

this proves though when people say they have beaten these faster cars that they can if the other car is caught off the boil. so when people post sayin i have just beaten an enzo (example) dont go puttin that person down stright away. imagine the sanario, two lanes mergin into one, me in my stilo slowin down because a wagon is turnin right, evo in overtakin lane caught off gaurd by the turnin vehicle so has had to slow in fourth. once van has moved both cars exelarate and the stilo gets to the single lane before the evo. hense posts like 'i have just waisted an evo' ok if evo was in another gear, but do u get what im gettin at.???

ta mate. feel free to send the link to anyone you think mite be interested :D

@ SilveRS - that part of the top gear test was a complete joke, just done to lighten the thing up. I think everyone knows that ;)

@ MikeJay - Indeed mate, totally understand, and also, conversely, people in these cars that have been 'beaten' arent always trying to race !!

At the end of the day - knowing how to drive the car you are in both in terms of power delivery and handling is an advantage you cannot underestimate ;)

evo in overtakin lane caught off gaurd by the turnin vehicle so has had to slow in fourth. once van has moved both cars exelarate and the stilo gets to the single lane before the evo.

But if the evo wanted to try, he just needs to knock it down a gear and he's fine. Rather than just accepting the lag because he's being lazy or doesn't want to race the stilo.

Most people who post "I just beat x car" usually say "And I could tell they were trying". Which they wouldn't have been if they were in the wrong gear. And if they know their car at all they should know what gear it wants to be in?
