Octavia 4x4 Steering heavy compared to Roomster/MkI Octy?

Featured Replies

Had the Octy 4x4 for about 6 months now and on most counts I love it but the steering has never inspired me and feels a little dead and very heavy at motorway speeds. I much preferred the steering on my mk1 Octavia 110 TDI and my Fathers Roomster steering is much better on all counts too. Its much heavier at all speeds not just motorway but thats when it bothers me most.

Is this normal? I'm running the standard size tyres (Dunlop SP fast response) on 15" Rims. Could it be that I need an alignment though it tracks straight and tyre and the tyres seem to we wearing totally evenly.

Any thoughts folks?

Mark.

You can adjust the amount of assistance on some mkIIs, though it depends on the version of the controller fitted. The previous owner could have had it set to gorilla.

Cheers for the advice, I will check it out. It never feels wrong as such, just a bit heavy. I actually quite like it for pressing on down a b road but most of my driving has been motorway and dual carriageway recently.

you can check it with VCDS.

Steering on our 4x4 is heavier than on the Fabia but it doesn;t bother me - much prefer it really for what the car can do!
