orange spring- should I be worried?

Featured Replies

hi guys,

I was just joining the motorway, gave it a bit to overtake a lorry and after I passed the spray from the lorry, an orange spring lit up under the rev counter. the car drove as normal, no loss of power etc. I pulled over, switched off and restarted, as I thought just sitting on the hard shoulder was not a great idea and no spring light.

I drove her the other 6 miles with no issues.

before you say, I looked at the manual. it says about glow plugs at startup, or engine management system limp mode, but that the maxidot would give an error to drive to nearest garage- it did not in this instance and I did not feel any power loss.

is it just one of those things, maybe from the spray etc, or something to worry about?

Best sticking it on diagnostics see what it throws up.

Have you had the recal work done for the glow plugs. Think some people said they also had injector harness problems too.

unsure. any way to check, as the car is pretty new to me. looks like there is a receipt for valve replacement, but nothing else I can see. any way to check?

Dealer should be able to tell you if it has had the injector recall done.

seems like a good time to get a fault code reader. would either of these be ok, I am a little budget conscious for the rest of this month :(

done quite a bit of driving in to town etc this afternoon and no further fault lights or probs....

There should be a sticker next to the spare wheel with the recall number on it. This will confirm the injector recall has been carried out.

Or better still the invoice in the glovebox :giggle:

As soon as the glowplug light illuminated it will have logged a fault. The only way to know what caused it for sure is to get the fault code read.
