Fabia Scissor Jack

Featured Replies

Is it safe to jack up the whole side of the car (Fabia vRS) with the scissor jack supplied with my Fabia, rather than just one wheel (so two wheels would be in the air in this case)?

Axle stands should be used in combination with a scissor jack. I've had them fail & they tend to go without warning. How exactly would you side jack it to sufficiently elevate both wheels?

Two jacks I suppose on reflection!

I've used a normal pump jack to get both wheels off the ground you just need one that extends high enough.

I'd follow Rob and advise axle stands though just in case.

On topic though I'm not sure that the boot tool kit scissor jack will go far enough to give you the height to get both wheels off the ground though.

My rear axle tends to jack almost as high as the front when jacking the sill at the front.

Thanks for the replies. I've managed to borrow a trolley jack and axle stands off a mate. What I was thinking was if I jacked up the left side of the car, is it safe for both left wheels to be off the ground. It doesn't matter now though.

Hi Dan, in essence yes but I won't use a scissor jack to do it. Trolly jack/axle stands tends to be the best approach

A mate of mine was changing a rear n/s flat with his Hyundai supplied scissor jack, collapsed after 5 min , makes you more aware about safety when you see it happen.

I had to rescue the father in law after his scissor jack decided it wasn't gonna go down when he was changing a flat lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

^ Agreed, hence the caution with using them. For me they're a last resort if I'm out & potentially stuck!! ;)

I'll admit to changing the wheels on one side of the mongrel just using a scissor jack roughly halfway down front door on the sill. By the time the front wheel is off the ground the rear is pretty much there anyway. Crack off 10 nuts, jack car, undo all nuts and remove wheels/refit wheels, job done. This only occurs when I cannot be bothered to dig the jack out from the back of the shed. :D Never had any issues.

Had the scissor jack bend on me last year, but had the spare under the sil as I hadn't put the axel stands under..... Don't ever trust them on their own!

+ 1 jars. You also need to be careful how & on what you seat them! As devonutopia says, I've used them over many years only for quick wheel changes etc & each time with a slight tinge of anxiety :wonder:
