Skodia Fabia 2001 1.4 Power Sterring Pump Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

Appoloigies if this is in the wrong section. I have a Fabia 2001 Y Reg. Yesterday the power steering went. The AA came out and had a look and has suggested it is teh Sensor and or the PAS Pump. I have spoken to the Skoda Garage and they have quoted 800.00 for a pump and 132 for a sensor. As i cannot afford 800.00 i have found a 2001 skoda PAS pump for 100.00. I have 2 questions

Q1 - I cannot find a sensor for sale anywhere is this attached/ part of the pump?

Q2 - Does anyone know the part number needed for a Fabia Y reg 2001 Comfort 5 Door?

Thanks

Head over to eBay and search Rainworth Skoda. They have both types of the steering angle sensor (early and late) In fact, if you mail them your reg number they'll find the part for you. The sensor is VERY common. Get your fault codes read first (surprised the AA didn't do this?) Pumps do go but the sensors go more often

Hey Dave89,

Thanks for this. Yeah the AA said that there system only picks up Engine managment, i was a bit confused why they wouldnt just try, but they where over 2hrs late getting to us, so he may have just been busy and wanted to leave.

I have just gone to ebay.co.uk and searched for: Rainworth Skoda but i get no replies.. am i searching correctly?

Thanks for the help

Thanks DB Mail sent. I will update the forum if they say they do not have the part. On a differnt note, does anyone know how hard it is to fit yourself? Would you recomend fitting yourself or getting a garage to fit it?

Thanks again

Hi All,

Just had a nice convosation with an ebay seller regards this, does anyone know if the sensor is part of the steering column or can it be bought seperatly? The seller was not 100% sure.

It's not part of the column. I hear it is still difficult to get to but a possible DIY JOB!

Hey Dave89,

Do you know exactly what the part is called, as if i search for PAS Sensor on ebay i get no hits. Is it called something slightly diffferent liks PAS Angle sensor?

Do you have any links to further info about it?

Thanks

Hi All,

I went to a garage today that swears blind they cannot get a error code, the sensor is attached to the steering rack and is not a cable and there are 3 different pumps for a 2001 1.4 Fabia 2001 Model car so he cannot give me the part number until he has taken the pump of the car. Can anyone advise if any of this sounds correct?

Thanks

Have a look in the Technical Guides section, the sensor swap is a case of getting the car up on ramps or stands, unbolting it (fiddly) and working the cable all the way round the engine bay. It's a *lot* easier if you can get it up on a lift. Two types of sensor are currently sold and the £135ish you've been quoted includes a £32ish rebate.

Check the flat fuses on top of the air box, check the voltage/ground at the pump, invest £5 in a generic VCDS lead if you have access to a laptop/netbook.

Is the sensor I used. Power steering pump from a polo works too. Easy access to the pump is to remove the grill next to the passenger fog light then the fog lights itself. If I remember right the part no is on a sticker. Pump replacement is simple. Remove wheel and arch liner. 3 bolts for the pump, spanner for the high pressure feed line and pliars for the circlip on the return hose.
