Skoda 135 GLi fuel pump?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm the proud owner of a 1989 Skoda 135 GLi and I need to find an electric fuel pump.

The current one is a Walbro 5611 but I can't seem to find any replacement parts on the internet.

Does anyone know where I can get a new one, or an equivalent?

Patrick from Canada

Guys, I can't actually help directly, but what's needed here is probably the flow rate and pressure that the Walbro can deliver. Similar parts probably do exist in Canada, so let's concentrate on the spec rather than the part number.

I just read in a 135 GLi technical manual "The fuel supply and pump remains as for the Favorit".

Also

"Adjustment of the fuel pressure regulator is necessary to establish the correct pressure after a replacement one has been installed. Connect an accurate fuel pressure gauge to the fuel supply hose of the throttle body... Start the engine and accelerate to a speed of approximately 2000 rpm. Turn the torx head adjustement screw on the bottom of the regulator to obtain 0.75 bar of pressure."

Under spare part numbers, there are two fuel pumps listed. One is "Bendix" the other is "115-945020".

Can I confirm; the car is as per your avatar, with a rear engine and side opening cover to a front trunk?

Only the Favorit replaced that model! (Estelle sedan and RapiD coupe in Europe)

Nice Estelle, and the Niva looks to be in good condition too.

So you need an electric pump for the fuel injection engine yes, but I think the Favorit, Felicia et al forum above might be better placed to help source one, because most if not all Estelles in the UK were carburettor cars.

the felicia one is in the tank with sender....

It's the same one as in the first generation Favorit. I will look into this further...

Thank you.

Patrick, is it totally dead? Does the engine start?

By the way, fuel injected Estelles (135 GLi) were never exported to the UK.

They were sold only in Canada, Finland and Austria.

The UK market got the 135 RiC instead, though only a few hundreds were sold as the last of the line rear engined Skodas.

I own one of those, an 1992 J-reg in beige (you can see it on my avatar) and I have also got issues with that Walbro AC...

You may view our hungarian topic on this link:

Although it's in hungarian, you can use google translator or I can also help you.

You can find many info on fuel injected, rear engined Skodas there.

In Canada, only 181 were sold from 1988 to 1989.

The fuel pump is as dead as the parrot from that Monty Python sketch. The engine needs it to be able to start up.

Do you know what fuel pressure I need to generate? Life would be so much easier if I could find a compatible universal fuel pump.

I can't even find specs on a Walbro 5611.

I contacted the manufacturer last week and they said they'd have an answer by last Monday... I am calling again.

 I've been looking through my stuff, I've found a secondhand one with a broken terminal [which could be repaired]. I'll see if it works and let you know.

I have also got a genuine Skoda workshop manual for this fuel/ignition system...it's at the barn, when I'm there next I'll see if I can find some specs for the pump to see if another manufacturer makes an equivalent.

Thank you so much!!

Are you talking about this manual?

According to the website, my car uses the same fuel pump as an AMC Jeep or Renault Alliance. I think I'll be content with this one unless you can make me an offer I can't refuse.

Yes, that's the one.

I think you're slightly confused about the reference to the fuel pump being the same as the early Favorit. The Estelle/Rapid Bendix single point fuel injection system has TWO pumps....one is mechanical, the other is electric. The early Favorit was not fuel injected [had a carburettor] and used only the mechanical pump, which is indeed the same as the mechanical pump fitted to the Estelle/Rapid. The electric pump that you require was NOT fitted to the early Favorit, the mechanical one was.

The later Favorit's had a completely different Bosch single point injection and had only one [electric] fuel pump which was fitted in the fuel tank.

 Hope that helps.

Thanks again!

Finally, I will need your secondhand pump.

I called a local car parts place and they said the Renault Alliance's fuel pump was inside the fuel tank, not out.

Dave, if you happen to have an other one, don't hesitate to contact me.

It's really impossible to get hold of a replacement recently.

Rumour has it there's a trick to fix the pump very easily but I haven't tried it, yet. One of hungary's Bendix expert told me how to do that, he also has two GLis and owned a white RiC earlier.

I'll keep you posted on this.

Patrick, if you buy an Airtex e7001 fuel pump, that can replace the Walbro AC. The only minor modification you need to do is to replace the intake tube to a wider one.

I will call my mechanic to tell him to buy it. Thank you so much!

Do I need to get a strainer?

Do I need to get a strainer?

No, that's not needed.

But if you're changing the AC you may also change the FRAM gasoline filter, I've also changed it a few weeks ago.

Already done. I was able to source a new fuel filter locally. It's the same as on a Renault Alliance / AMC Jeep (much like the fuel pump).

This is going to sound like an odd request, but can you post up some pics of the Renault Alliance and relevenat AMC Jeep so that we can try and identify the relevant models forp laces other than North America.

Renault Alliance is Renault 9 in Europe. AMC Jeep is Grand Wagoneer, if I'm not mistaken.
