Installation guide - OEM bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have seen a lot of web link refer to this great guide, however when I click the link I get a web error.

http://octavia-vrs.c...ated-bluetooth.

Does anyone know of another link to this guide or (by chance) has anyone got a paper copy I could trouble them for a copy of? I have my OEM kit on order & I want to do my homework before I make any school boy errors in installing the kit.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Do a search on here theres a step by step giude some where.

There are pleanty of people on here who have done it and probably all the advice you need as well (just not in one place).

It is pretty straight forward (slightly more complicated if you have air bags in the pillars) and fairly self explanatory.

If you have specific questions, post them here and I'm sure either myself or another member will be able to answer / advise.

Such a shame about the oxtavia-vrs.com page. It was a great resource.

This is it I just would appreciate the general rules of what you do & in what order & any handy tools/tricks I could use to make the job smoother. If you can offer any of these i'd be welcome to have any tips & I think I might try & do a guide (Inc. pics) to post for others to use as I install the kit.

I've almost finished my installation (and I've been taking a few pictures as well) with the intention of writing a guide. Can't see it happening soon though...

The 'correct' location for the BT module and wiring is down the driver's A-pillar to under the driver's seat. But locating it under the passenger seat is much easier to do.

Here's a general outline:

  1. Remove front light fitting and A-pillar trim on the passenger side;
  2. Run stiff wire or similar from light fitting to top of A-pillar;
  3. Pull microphone cable through;
  4. Plug in microphone and locate into light fitting;
  5. Replace light fitting;
  6. Cable tie (loosely at this point) the mic cable down the A-pillar;

This article covers all of the above (with pictures)

  1. Remove foam trim under glovebox (2 x plastic hand screws) and glovebox (5 x T20) being careful of air bag deactivation switch and light wiring (air duct can easily be left in place);
  2. Remove stereo fascia and head unit also worth removing the air con panel to make space for the pass through quadlock;
  3. Run mic from bottom of A-pillar to behind head unit;
  4. Attach pass through quadlock to the existing quadlock and run extension loom back towards passenger door hinges;
  5. Cable tie all cables behind glove box (loosely) to other cables;
  6. You can now replace the HU and test the whole system before replacing the fascia as well;
  7. Assuming that it all works, remove the trim along the passenger door threshold (IIRC you need to remove the bit at the bottom of the B-pillar first);
  8. Route the cable alongside all the other ones and find a way under the carpet towards the location where the BT module will be located;
  9. Use either the foam block or a BT mount to secure the BT module under the seat;
  10. Connect the lug to the BT module;
  11. Replace trim, get it coded with VCDS and enjoy talking to the head unit...

The only real place to go 'wrong' is in plugging the mic into the wrong plug so that voice control works or not. Read this article and track the wires yourself from the quadlock - it should make sure you get it 'right' first time.

Once you have voice control working, it's worth reading this article.

I've probably missed out loads or over-simplified bits, but with some common sense and a little care it is really quite straight forward.

The beolw is really handy, thank so much for your time in writing this guide up.

I'll keep you posted as to how I get on. I've got a local, fellow briskodian, to do my coding so should have it sorted in the next couple of weeks, all being well.

As Stu (original creator of the site) is no longer around the Skoda stuff, I'm not that surprised the domain has disappeared. Only a matter of time really.

I may be able to get the content and get it online though, or at least re-host the articles. Will have a chat with him.

Registered until May, so could just be a hosting issue at the moment...

That would be dead handy if you could. Not to take anything away from Karl who has given me some really good pointers. I'll look forward to hearing if you get any joy from Stu.

IIRC Stu's one had pictures.

Yep, had pictures - which definitely do help.

I'll also check to see if I have a saved/printed copy.

FYI, you can get a cached copy from Google, but it won't include the photos unfortunately:

I did the PDF hosted on there for stu so ill try and dig it off my old pc tomorrow

Well done that man :)

Wardy & Sworrall this is gold dust. V/Much appreciated. My kit arrived this morning got the 7P6035730L module & other bits, I hope this will do the trick for me. If anyone knows any different before I start please shout...

Thanks to everyone for the help. The links will be handy to many more DIY installers in time.

Regard Mark

no problems. good luck with the fitting :)

Just ordered OEM Bluetooth from Car systems in Poland, hope to fit next weekend if it comes in time. Anybody near to Brackley who has a VCDS cable? I will take some pictures and post a how to or maybe not guide.

Hi all,

Would really like some reassurance before I take the plunge and buy one of these kits. I have a Fabia II (62 plate) with an Amundsen + Sat Nav / Stereo (RNS 315). I do not have a multifunction steering wheel or MaxiDot but can someone confirm if the bluetooth unit is fully functional via the touchscreen of the Amundsen + ? The kit I was looking at was: part 7P6 035 730 K SW:3200 HW:H15. There are also a lot of kits with a different ending letter instead of the 'k', mainly a 'J' or a 'L'. Would these also be suitable?

Many thanks for your help.

Stagger

Stagger, from what I can see from my own Amundsen + headunit it works perfectly OK from the touch screen ( i use the touch screen more than the maxidot display) however i have the BT enabled from the headunit itself.

Did you get any confirmation that your headunit does not have integrated BT? I have read that 2012 headunits have had BT removed.

Hi Welsh Kai boy,

I'm guessing that my Headunit does not have BT integrated as when David 8 tried to enable BT with VCDs it would not let us save the new coding. Hence I have been looking at getting a Bluetooth unit as mentioned. I notice on certain suppliers websites it is now saying that the bluetooth mics are not suitable for 2012 Amundsen+ units.

Did you enable the BT on your headunit yourself ? Is there anything different I should have done to try and enable mine? I gave David 8 the following instructions: http://www.remkoweijnen.nl/blog/2011/08/26/rns-315-enable-the-hidden-bluetooth-carkit/

and he tried several times but each time the code was rejected.

Thanks for the reply. Glad yours is up and running well.

Cheers

Malcolm
