There are dimples at the bottom that indicate where to place a jack. No?

^ They haven't used the jacking point.. looks like a quick bottle jack underneath on the edge of the sill.

Yes they have they placed the jack where one should place the factory jack, thieves however often use to jacks one at the front and one at the back and then put the car on bricks

Every body shop assistant/ mechanic I saw said that they think its only the sealant that has split (and obviously the paint on top) but if that is the case, I would be happy for the mean time to live with the damage. The question is - Would I be able to seal it myself and then use the left over race blue aerosol I still have, just to inhibit rust from starting and then further damage.

I've seen you can buy this sealant in an aerosol too, the stuff they spray underneath the chassis.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks again!

Like I sad before, if you dont fix that properly you'll be back on here in a year saying omg my sills have holes in and now it's failed it's mot.

Seems to new a motor for a short term 'hope for the best' repair. Be better getting it professionally put back to as new IMHO.

sorry but its not obvious as to where to put the jack as the mechanic at the dealers told me theres no place for a trolley jack, who am i to argue that point which is why i think asking here is better for anyone unsure

I have never yet used the jack that comes with any of my cars.... ever. I hate them and would only ever use them if i had too at the roadside, i have a high quality trolley jack that can lift up to 3 tons, i place it normally on solid sections of the frame (ie not sills, sheet metal, plastic or anything else), i (and my mechanic) have never had a problem with the Mk2 and the Mk1. I also have either a block of wood or some thick toweling to protect the metalwork. Never had an issue, forget those scissor jacks things, they are rubbish.

If you do this then at some point in the future you will then come to sell it, you will lose a lot of money (if not the sale) once this is seen..... if your going to have to fix it in the future, just get it done now anyway ! A quick bodge job with a spray can seems a bit odd.

I would get it done properly... It will pay off in the long term. You will feel better owning it and sell it better at the end of your ownership if it aint rusted away!

this has happened to me today :-( my trolley jack slipped off... im so unbelieveably gutted :-( :-( :-(

:(

I've always used the jack that comes with the car, never any issues

this has happened to me today :-( my trolley jack slipped off... im so unbelieveably gutted :-( :-( :-(

The question is where did you put the jack...others please refer to my previous saga on the subject.

was on the jacking point. theres little notches.where it says to jack from. the cup of my trolley jack slipped while i was lifing it up. the jack wheel caught a little stone and made the jack move. that let it slip off a bit and... crunch

:-( :-( :-( my fault i guess for not checking it was 1000% bang on but damn. im so annoyed. actually feel so sick...

ah well ill try the hairdrier and duster gas trick and hope to jesus it pops out... looks bad though but no creases in the metal

If you are using that much force on your repair work that the car slips of the trolley jack either position the jack better or place car on an axle stand (placed under the OEM lifting points as referred to in the manual.)

Only ever had a car slide off the jack because I was trying to jack the car up quickly and wrongly (I did know at the time) from the centre of the rear axle...(was trying something out..and no damage luckly)......................................

it happened while i was lifting the car. i was about 6 pumps in and the jack just moved. found a big mark on the jack wheel so must of been on a small stone while i was lifting it.

Sad to hear; use a thick sheet of heavy duty ply on the ground for the trolley jack to sit on and a rubber ice hockey puck on the steel cup. Touching wood been OK so far. This arrangement came from lesson learned with my first Octy I and a bent hanging seem due to a similar issue

Hope you can get it sorted,

TP

Sorry to hear Apmamam

I've still not done anything with my sills. I thoroughly cleaned them and I don't see any creases or puncture holes etc. It's just where the paint and possibly the sealant has almost been "cut" into. So really don't want to spend the £600-700

I really would live with the damage, just really unsure if its going to properly start rusting away, as from my view the damage isn't extensive :wonder:

Bought my first house and moved in yesterday! Can confirm it Feels niiiice to be a homeowner lol. Was wanting to get rid of the furby and upgrade to something quicker but house purchase has cleaned me out for the time being (moving is v.expensive!) so will be keeping it for the next 6 months or so.

congrats! ill happily settle for something a bit boring as i have my beach buggy to hoon around with lol.

worked out if i got rid of the vrs i can hide away over 2/3 of my monthly wage instead of the car and its high fuel useage.

should get a decent deposit saved up then..

Well try as I might the "hair dryer co2 heat/freeze" youtube special didnt work. Off to a body shop tomorrow and get them to quote me misirable.
