Potential mods for VRS?

Featured Replies

Hello

Fabia VRS on order and already planning some mods after reading a lot of posts on here.

However I am utterly useless at anything mechanical so would need to pay for them to be installed.

Firstly thinking of replacing the battery for a race battery, any idea how much this would cost fitted? The reason is mainly for the second mod, but also to save weight as I would then look to remove the rear weights to keep the balance of the car? Removing weight from the front and rear of the car shouldn't upset the balance to much??

Second mod once space has been freed up under the bonnet is to fit the ITG Maxogen from the Polo GTI.

Would doing either of these impact the warranty?

Thank you

technically yes they will look at anything to void a claim.

First thing those Fabia's need is suspension its like a tractor!

Get it lowered and then go for a apr stage 1 map and miltek exhaust.

There are differing opinions about the advantages and dissadvantages of removing the rear weights. How much weight do you expect a race battery to save? Remap, lowering and RARB are some of the most common performance mods. If you want to go beyond stage 1 then decat downpipe is necessary (I believe). A more free flowing exhaust and uprated intercooler are also easily available and a fairly well trodden path. Bigger brakes probably a good idea if you want to do track days. Better headlight bulbs as oem are not great.

Check out the build threads as there are some extreme modders that frequent this site, most quite happy to pass on their experiences.

1. Make it low (VAG Eibach springs will drop you about an inch)

2. RARB

3. Fit the ITG, others have done it without changing the battery

4. Miltek exhaust (cat back or full system even decat)

5. Re map stage 1 or 2

Take a look through a number of the Fabia build threads, there is some good stuff there, just not sure what to do next myself.

Edit made, do the exhaust before the remap, otherwise you will need to re do the map anyway.

Milltek for me, make it sound like the beast it is!

I had just about saved up for the ITG and Milltek Cat-Back and was going to pop up to AwesomeGTi next weekend.. but that went out the window!

Whats your budget?

The best mod order imo is

rear ARB

Remap

Springs/suspension

Brakes

Exhaust

Induction kit

Budget is flexible, I don't want to spend loads but if a few hundred quid here and there improve the car I'll do it.

Main concerns are not making the ride much harsher, and not invalidating my warranty on the engine, heard there could be issues with it??

Rear arb and tmc tuning box are what you need then.

Is the tuning box warranty safe?

Any recommendations on the RARB?

Thank you

H&R or Whiteline for RARB. Jabba one doesn't fit with standard exhaust. H&R is thicker but don't think anyone has done a real comparison. I have the whiteline and it is easy to fit and makes a great difference.

For lowering go for the skoda supplied eibachs, won't invalidate any warranty and if fitted at The pre delivery inspection should have the same warranty as the car.

Tuning box won't affect any engine warrnty as long as you don't let the garage know you've got it, ie take it off anytime it goes in.

Listen to this guy, he knows what he is talking about. Also take a look at his build thread.

No mods are warranty safe if you have any problems with your car for example engine problems you would need to remove the tuning box first then take the car in otherwise the dealer want carry out any warranty work

Race battery ?? Total waste of time imo

Race engine was only so I could fit the ITG Maxogen off the Polo.

Thanks for all the advice.

Decided to go for the Eibach springs first and then the RARB.

Once the handling is sorted, I'll get looking at sorting the power.

Good choice. I really found the stock handling quite poor for a hot hatch. RARB goes a long way but I am still keen to get some lowering springs on, just need the money and the time.

Everyone to their own opinion, but I suggest a different order on the list vRSy did :

Springs/suspension

Remap

Tyres

Brakes

Intercooler

Exhaust (all the way from the turbo, including cat that is!)

rear ARB

Induction kit

Here's the reason why :

The stock suspension is rubbish!

A "proper" kit (just an example here, Weitec GT dampers/springs) will improve ridequality, lower the car with 30 mm and make it roll considerably less!

The remap unlocks so much mid-range power it's silly that VAG kept it in it's original state!

The tyres fitted to the car as stock is okey (Continental Sport Contact 2) or horrifying (Dunlop Sport Maxx).

Replacing these with Federal RSR-595 will make the car handle and brake better...

Also, the pattern looks awesome \.o./!

The frontbrakes are appaling for a car with the straigh-line performance this car have.

Sure, it's no M3. But a car that can do 230 km/h should have brakes that can do the job from those speeds and not overheat in the first braking from 160 km/h - 80 km/h!

A good intercooler (using the Forge myself) makes it alot less heatsoaked which means you can stay on the power for much longer.

Easy to fit and generally not too pricy!

The exhaust locks up about the same power as the intercooler providing that you go for a full kit including a 100 cell race-cat!

Also, it will sound awesome after this... Beware tho, just replacing the back-part will do squat except for the sound!

The rear-arb is alot less noted when you've replaced the dampers and springs.

Therefore, it's coming a long way down on the list!

Sure, it's not very expensive but... It surely doesn't do very much for a car with proper springs and dampers!

The intake here is my least favorite. I've tested the Forge-kit and it's horrible.

Haven't had the opportunity to test the kit I have now compared to a stock-kit, so therefore I keep it down here until I can give you some numbers!

Is there anything else you wonder, just gimme a shout =)!
