A bought a privately sold VRS today, 2004, FSH, nicely looked-after car. Test drive was perfect.

An hour later on the way home, the Glow Plug Warning Light came on along with the EPC warning light.

Car still drove fine and got me home, but I'm paranoid it's something nasty (and expensive).

Brake lights are all fine.

Any ideas (from non-scare-mongerers) please?

First off, don't panic! Check your battery connection along with the earth and all fuses.

I'm sure someone will help you on this forum but correct me if I'm wrong here but perhaps you have a glow plug issue?

What about abs sensors?

If your near crawley west sussex then I'm more than welcome to plug my fault code reader and see what its saying.

If it was a serious fault it would go into limp home mode and limit the power output.

As it is, id continue driving it but be paying more attention to any odd noises etc.

Don't forget the serious warning lights are red.

Went to AD Autotechnik today - excellent garage.

Turns out the fault is an Engine Speed Sensor, quite a cheap part but two hours labour to fix. Bill around £180.

Could have been a lot worse, thanks for your help guys.
