Disconnecting the Battery

Featured Replies

Hi

I like to remove the battery from my 2010 Superb.

Reading the manual it says something abt it would

- reset the service history

- reset the stereo so ned to enter PIN

- etc

Can i ask will the above happen?

Wotelse is there?

I just want to remove battery to charge / recondition for 24hrs

- hence i ned to remove and put into garage (no space in garage for car :-()

Thks all

It shouldn't reset the service indicator and the radio should be comfort coded so that when the car realises that the radio belongs in it, it will be automatically enabled.

What you will lose will be, the time, all the trip computer data, possibly the one touch operation on the windows (which is an easy reset) and maybe the radio presets.

Perhaps telling gran about sucking eggs, but if not.

Loosen/remove the earthy side ( nowadays the negative terminal ) FIRST .This terminal is at the same potential as the body. Should you inadvertantly short to chassis ,you will cause no problems . Do the same on the positive ,with negative connected and you will have one molten spanner . With the negative disconnected , the positive has no potential relationship to the body .

i notice Haynes does mention order of removal, without an explanation .

Cheers FordFan - real useful to know!

Cheers VWD - er, real useful too! Lol

Disconnected mine a while back and had no issues. Only thing that I had to reset was the time on maxidot.

Cheers mate!

Gives me more confident to remove battery now...

If you'd done a search in Superb 2 it would have told you this , there are quite a few recent battery threads

Apologies - sometimes when I am too keen I forget the all powerful SEARCH facility.

Thks for reminding me!

Thks to your reminder, Rich.

A search in the Superb II sections has one member charging

their battery on the drive without disconnecting the battery.

Since i have the same charger, i ll do the same.

Nice one, thks!

Yes there is no need to disconnect when charging but remember to remove the charger before trying to start the engine as it may blow the charger
