HELLO FROM YORKSHIRE

Featured Replies

Hi all,

my name is Steve and I have owned a very tidy 1998 1.6 ltr Octavia estate for the last three weeks,

genuine 76,000 miles on the clock with a service history to back up the mileage.

Apart from the rear compartment courtesy lights not working ( both disconnected ) and the rear passenger window not moving ,( you can hear the window mechanism operating ) everything else appeared to be working.

However, yesterday, I unlocked the car using the key and found that the two front doors unlocked but not the two passenger doors. Using the interior handle I managed to raise the button far enough to take hold of it and open the door.I could only lock the door by manually pushing the button back down. The

passenger door on the driver,s side is shut solid and will not open at all using the interior handle,it is possible to raise the button but it appears to be dragged forcibly back into the door if you try to take hold of it, suggesting that something may be jammed solid inside the door.

Apart from the window mentioned above, the other three windows work ok ,the switch panel in the drivers door seems to be ok, door lock button on this panel works to lock/open the 2 front doors but not the rear 2 . The button for locking the rear windows appears to work. Everything such as electric mirrors, mirror heating ,courtesy lights appear to work. The red flashing light for the alarm/immobiliser has stopped flashing. When the key is used in either front door lock,it is possible to hear the front door locks operating , also the tailgate lock. As far as I could tell, the 2 rear door locks did not operate, at least there did not appear to be any sound of movement within the door.If anyone could give me any ideas as to solve the problem (s) it would be greatly appreciated. This is spoiling an otherwise good car, which still has plenty of life left in it.

Many thanks,

Steve.
