After market head unit looks like a great deal but?

Featured Replies

Have a read, plenty of threads regarding these cheap chinese units. General consensus, you get what you pay for. They are cheap for a reason and most don't have great sound.

Notice that there are no pictures of the unit actually working, they are all simulated. This is because the interface is not that great. Have to laugh at the reference to HD screen, the screen resolution is lower than UK Standard definition.

Save up and get a Columbus instead.

you could by a branded one for that price if you shop around on ebay,

i wouldent get that pile of kr-p

As echoed before quality concerns, I had one years ago (different model different car) which did everything possible and arrived failed almost immediately (china job but stocked in UK) replaced immediately and its still working been in 3 of my cars and just been scrapped in my last car by previous owner still fitted! I see them as a gamble, I would never expect anywhere near OEM finish or quality but it's not meant to be. I wouldn't buy one again after the number of people I have since seen having issues though.

Any body been brave enough to try one of these yet?

Yip, not the same model but I purchased an Audiosources ANS810 unit for my VRS approx 8 months ago. Much better than the Bolero unit fitted to car and incorporates bluetooth, sat nav and a whole number of inputs, ipod, video etc. Just in the process of also hooking up a reversing camera. Regular software updates direct from the manufacturer and to be honest, apart from one or two small software glitches, couldn't be happier. As for the build quality, looks as good as OEM, the 8" touchscreen looks fantastic on video playback and all menus are configurable per VAG car, e.g. Green/Red backlighting, green/red software buttons, manufacturer logo etc. If you want any further information just shout.

Been there, done it, worn the t-shirt -- NEVER AGAIN. Even cost me a fortune to return the damn thing. Please don't bother.

Columbus all the way.

Mike

Hey Mike, I totally agree with you, almost all the cheap chinese aftermarket units I wouldn't touch with a bargepole but I really did my research and I can say the Audiosources ANS810/ANS510 unit is pretty damn good and fully integrates with the CAN BUS so you still get all the dorr cue displays etc. Really nice unit all things considered. I've had lots of positive comments from fellow VAG enthusiasts. I looked into the Columbus after having one previously but with the cost of the columbus, bluetooth module and the hassle of re-coding it worked out pretty expensive. As I say just a matter of opinion but I think you'd be suprised at the quality of the Audiosources unit.

How much did you get it for and where from? Also what shape is it? The problem I have with my VRS is that I don't have climate control and from what I can gather, there isn't a silver trim that fits the Columbus-shape and aircon controls only fitting those with climate control.

Got it from the manufacturer direct, was going to order from a place in Liverpool but to be honest they knew nothing about the unit or fitting with different trims etc, in fact they did themselves out of a sale as I researched a change of trim to accomodate the size difference between Columbus and Bolero they said it would fit my vehichle. As per adamal post above, I researched the trim parts(sorry can't remember which site I used) but there are lots of different options availalbe for bolero size, columbus size, climate, non climate, silver, black. As I say, can't remember which site I used but it had a full exploded diagram of dashboard and all available trims, I'm sure you'll find the required trim no problems.

Think the unit cost a little over £300 but in my opinion well worth it. Would be happy to take some videos if you can't view online, I went for the ANS810 unit as opposed to the ANS510 unit, both same functionality but preffered the bigger touchscreen.

Hope that helps.

Picked up a leaflet from these lot at the Geneva Motor Show http://www.zenec.com...at/ze-nc2011d/.

The guy on the stand told me the e>go units don't require coding but his English wasn't so gut.

Don't know if they're any good or indeed whether they ship to the UK, but their web shop can be found at www.acr.eu

Audiosources ANS810/ANS510 unit

Thats a very interesting looking unit. It looks a lot better than the typical chinese stuff you see on ebay. It has decent integration for the VW/Skoda/Audio brand
