Boot Roller Cover / Net

Featured Replies

Having seen how much boot space is occupied by the spare wheel, it doesn't leave much height in the boot to play with before reaching the standard parcel shelf.

This isn't a problem as such because if the parcel shelf wasn't there then the full height of the boot could be used for luggage or camping trips. Removing the parcel shelf has two problems, however.

Firstly, the contents of the boot are open to prying eyes and secondly it's a safety risk if the luggage is higher than the rear back / headrests. Having 2 small children, I don't want to use their heads as stoppers for flying luggage!

What I have seen on Skoda's website is a retractable roller cover that not only serves to hide boot contents but also seemingly has a net that extends to the roofline, acting as a safety device? http://new.skoda-auto.com/en/models/Pages/HotspotDetail.aspx?HotspotName=B11%20-%20D?lic%C3%AD%20s%C3%AD?%20%5BFabia%2C%20Roomster%2C%20Octavia%2C%20Yeti%2C%20Superb%5D&WebID=e9741374-c026-48a1-bcc1-7136e03f01ef&Page=technology

Does anyone have this fitted and if so can they elaborate on the pros and cons of such a device? Cost?

Interesting.

The yeti I just ordered has a retractable parcel shelf, which my 2wd SE doesn't have. I assumed that the retractable parcel shelf in the elegance 4x4 I've just ordered was just something that came with the higher spec. But maybe it's a new thing for 2013.

I must admit this is only something I have read in the brochure so I'm not sure if its the same as this.

But I totally agree, we travel to the coast most weekends to stay in the parents holiday home and we more often than not fill the boot to the roof. As soon as we have packed a pram/buggy and toys for my 2yr old son we've half filled the boot, so I end up in the same position as you where the parcel shelf stays at home leaving prying eyes free to view everything.

Thanks for sharing.

The dividing net looks a much better option than a fiddly dog guard that I have. I wonder if it just for 2013 Yetis or all years, although it looks like it requires a special fixing in headlining panel to hook the net into either side.

The images are of the new Octavia, not the Yeti. The previous model Octavia Estate also had a roller luggage cover, I had one for 7 years and it was reliable effective and easy to use.

I used a dog guard in a previous car to overcome this problem when our children rode in the back.

My Yeti registered last month still has the standard parcel shelf not retractable.

This tend to live in the cupboard under the stairs as I am constantly carrying stuff where the shelf gets in the way.

I just tend to put a black cover over stuff while its in the car so nosey parkers cant see whats under it

I'm intrigued by Dinski saying he has ordered a retractable cover, as I can't see one listed for the Yeti anywhere.

it is my one of my only critisms of the yeti....worst still the storage when the luggage space is full......

I'm sure I had a loan Yeti with one of these in while my Fabia was in service about 2 weeks ago.

I don't recall seeing a parcel shelf in that car and I remember thinking what a good sized boot it was (this one didn't have the spare wheel, however.) A retractable cover must exist I'm sure?

Hi guys,

The yeti that I test drove had a foldable parcel shelf on runners, so I assume the one I've ordered will come with the same.

I could be wrong, but I can't see why it shouldn't, as they are the same model. I just hope it is something new for 2013 as I agree with others, stiff parcel shelf is a pain!

The images are of an OCTAVIA ESTATE not a YETI! Octavia estate has the roller cover, the Yeti has a solid lifting style cover no matter what year or model.

I don't think either of us are debating the origin of the image Expatman but I'm sure I've had a loan Yeti with a roller cover in the boot, even if it didn't have a dividing net as in said image. Sounds like I'm not the only one to have seen such a device in a Yeti either and no, I'm not talking about another image I've seen somewhere!

Thanks for that but I'm talking about THE ACTUAL CAR I DROVE! had one.

Photo anyone? Of an actual car?

So we have two people both describing two different covers. Now I am confused!!

Anyone going into a dealers in the next couple of days, or perhaps our friendly dealer on here could take a photo and confirm what's what?

I pdi yeti's as part of my job , I also own a model year 13 yeti and have never seen a retractable boot cover........ Need pictures of this or this is worthless.....

LOL... see my VERY first post to this forum in April 2010:

See point 1.

So if you go and look closely at the picture in the manual you will see you need factory mounted connections in the ceiling of the car to make this work. Which I have never seen on any Yeti. This device was (it seems) just a pipe dream from the person that did the drawings for the Yeti manual.

As you can see in the actual car there is no such connection in the ceiling (it should be just ahead of the rear grab handle):

If you scroll back/forward through the OP's link http://new.skoda-aut...Page=technology you will see a Yeti with (10) areas that have/can be included in the specification. I imagine that the technology section, is merely a guide to various features across the Skoda range, and not specific to the Yeti. Case in point is the luggage net, as already pointed out, is from an Octavia Estate. Case closed?

Agreed. I've looked all through that link and can find nothing about these "covers" on a Yeti.

That's exactly what I'm looking for!!!!

Why the hell didn't they make it....

JeZ

That is why I asked the question way back then too... it is EXACTLY what I want as well. OH well... The cost of the connections in the ceiling or something must have been prohibitive.

Optional extra? sure a lot of people would've paid for it like Kayak'ers and Windsurfers ;-)

Those ceilling connections will be factory fitted alas. You won't be able to retrofit those sort of things easily and it will be very difficult to do it neatly retrospectively. So had this been an option they would have had to fit these connections to EVERY Yeti hoping some people buy the option - which does not make financial sense. OR they should have made this type of thing standard. As they are on many a Volvo and BMW estate.

This is available as a Yeti factory-fit option in some countries - Skoda option code 3CB - at a cost of some 160 Euros. Extracts from the Swiss Yeti catalogue and pricelist has further details.
