Octavia Diagnostic Code - Help Please

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been having a power/turbo problem with my Octavia (2000 1.9 TDI). When going up a hill I lose all power and it goes into a kind of limp mode, I'm assuming its when it gets to certain rev but my dials have recently cut out so I couldn't tell you if thats the case. If I stop, turn off and restart then its fine again. I have taken it to the garage who plugged the diagnostics in and the only code to come up was; 17598 Charge Pressure Control.

Does anyone know what that means please and how we fix it?

Thank you

It could be any number of things, but the first things to check are all of the vacuum pipework and intake pipes for leaks, splits or cracks. Vacuum pipe particularly is so cheap it's worth replacing all of it, as after 13 years it's not going to be in brilliant condition. The intake pipes, intercooler, etc could all also have leaks which might cause limp mode and poor power.

The behaviour suggests sticky vanes in the turbo leading to overboost and that normally comes up as "charge pressure control - positive deivation" which is code 17965. 17598 isn't listed on the Ross Tech wiki.

Did your garage use VCDS or some other kind of code reader?

There is a thread all. about sorting the problem using Mr Muscle written by Lofty in the Octavia I forum, have a look.
