Petrol Light/Mileage left..

Featured Replies

Bit of an odd one.

When I'm driving along and the petrol light comes on, it says (for example) 35miles please refuel. So i think fair enough.

However on another day it'll say 40miles or 30 miles left, Please refuel.

is it the way i'm driving at that particular time?

In a word, yes. It takes account of your recent driving style and assumes that will continue.

Like what XK140 said - It does the calc based on the consumption figure at that time.

If you're belting along at 80mph, it might say 20 miles to go when the light comes on. If nice and stead, it will say more.

It always lies though, if you stop, turn off and restart, it will display something less!

And you can drive about showing 0, as I found out by accident...

I got 10 miles out of 0 to go. Was the worst feeling of my life knowing the petrol station was close but living on the edge.

Was a nervous wreck by the time I got to the station ahaha! Never again

In my old car (Seat Cordoba) you could get a further 59 miles at least with it reading 0.

I only knew that as I once filled up with it reading 0 and just less than 40 litres went in (45 litre tank).

This will vary by car though of course.

what they all said! lol...

haha thanks guys. :)

I know only to take it as a guide though not actual miles left in tank. :) I've only ran out twice, thinknig on both times I'm nearly there or thought I could make it. It's horrible.
