Just joined as a new registered member. Currently driving a November 2001 Octavia Elegance diesel estate TDi, but looking in the next year to change to the equivalent Mk. 2 version with 140 bhp engine and DSG - my wife finds the pedal angles on the manual version difficult. First we'll have to see if the new Octavia is more wife-friendly.

I've already noted the problems forum members have posted about TDis losing all their oomph. Happened to me, and was traced down to a faulty air mass sensor - replaced under guarantee. Has recurred since, but - as others have pointed out - stopping and switching off the engine seems to re-set the electronics. In my experience, the power loss occurs when one uses full throttle on a cold-to-warm (rather than hot) engine).

But overall, I've been very happy with the Octavia estate - it's really a victory of head over heart, whereas our second car - a Smart City Coupe Passion - is absolutely the reverse!
