Hyper-V 2012 or ESXi 5.1 for microserver

Featured Replies

Ok fellow IT employees/geeks.

Which hypervisor should i install on my microserver?

Im from a VMware background, but im hearing good things about the latest Hyper-V.

If only Server2012 essentials included Hyper-V then this wouldn't be a discussion!

Ill be dual-booting it at first with my existing WHS2011 install, but my ultimate goal will be to virtualize that if i can get the network performance.

comments welcome :)

If you are familiar with VMWare then I would stick to it.

One company I did work for decided that they would go Hyper-V because they were going to become an exclusive MS and Dell house. They had a lot of problems migrating the platforms across.

This is just for my home labs... everything is destructible :)

My ideal situation would have been server 2012 essentials supporting hyper-v.. then i could have upgraded WHS - kept the nice web-console features and local storage with the ability to run VMs on top.
