VRS Unpopular?

Has the market dropped in the last few months for Octavias?

Only reason I ask, I had mine on eBay as a classified advert. Now I don't think it was over priced for a 57 plate with FSH

Lots of watchers but no calls!!!!

I absolutely love these cars for the money your hard to find a better alternative. So is it just me or are they becoming less attractive to buy?

It might just be he time of year, just after Christmas so people aren't looking to get a new car

It's a shame your not a Freedom member then you could advertise it on here too. Are you moving away from Skoda? If not why not register as a freedom member and put it in the for sale section. It's a cheap way to advertise.

Octyavia 3 coming out will knock us all down on price to a degree as well now :(

Might be the VAT back offer has made newer cars more attractive and driven down prices in general as a knock on efect and those that are in the market are paying a bit more for a newer car? You haven't said what you wanted for yours how many miles it's done etc so it's difficult to say if it's an issue surrounding your car or soemthing more general but as Dark Hero says this isn't the best time of year to sell a car, especially with the economy being the way it is I guess. The other thing not in your favour is that those who haven't driven one just don't know how good they are, so you probably won't get the same broad interest from prospective buyers who have other makes of car.

Unfortunately in regard to the used car market, the market is always dropping. Your car is always worth a bit less next month than it was the month before.

As has been mentioned, January is probably a bad time of year to sell, and the imminent arrival of the Octavia Mk3 (March) in the showrooms will have a further impact on values.

Also you may have better luck with Autotrader......I think there is a slight stigma attached to selling on ebay....buyers are more cautious and may expect to pay lower prices....even if it is a classified ad.

it will have been the price mate as on ebay ppl are after a bargain...like myself who recently got my 59 reg vrs tdi DSG with 93k for less than ppl who had their pre fl's on classified ads.

out of curiosity what did u have it up at and whats d mileage?

As the Mk2 has finished production and there is going to be no Mk3 vRS for a while I would have thought the secondhand market would remain quite strong for the time being.

I agree. For me ebay is not the place to sell a car as everyone goes there looking for a bargain. I had a cupra on there years ago and kept getting offers for half the price. It went on Autotrader and sold for about 10% of the list price.

ebay is deffo for the bargain hunter guaranteed wether its cars, clothes, fine jewellery etc. the only way you're gonna get proper money or even extra money is if you have a product that is in high demand. ..like certain stone island hats with a rrp tag still on of £95 are easily fetching £140+ as u cant get em in the shops anymore or when I had the new porsche design blackberry p9981's in hand when they were totally sold out in harrods. the price in harrods is £1400 per handset and within days mine were all picked up cash for alot more

so autotrader is the place to sell for deffo

Autotrader, pistonheads, Pay £12 and advertise here. Ebay is one place I would not try to sell a car and get market value.

The vRS is far from unpopular, its almost impossible to now order a new one. However with orders now being taken for the MK3 Octavia at dealers, and a new vRS due soon this will be having an effect on price and the secondhand market.

As the Mk2 has finished production and there is going to be no Mk3 vRS for a while I would have thought the secondhand market would remain quite strong for the time being.

Although there may not be a Mk3 vRS for a while, the very fact that there is going to be one at some point, will probably affect the second hand market in Mk2 vRS's.

I've never had a correctly priced car fail to sell on a 2 week Autotrader advert.

It's a bit pricey but worth it.

Thanks for the responses so far. Probably my own fault for advertising on there in the first place

I had lots if watchers and cheeky offers well below what it is worth so I will now advertise on either Pistonheads or auto trader and hopefully have it go to someone who actually appreciates how good a car if is!!!

pay the £40 and get it on autotrader. ull get around your asking price if the car is clean and has history. the only thing going against u is d favt its a petrol n not diesel but good luck anyway mate

Yeah I think the diesel I preferred at the moment with current petrol prices. Wish I don't have to sell but house purchase means I need some extra funds.

Cheers

If its priced 'competitively' then it will sell especially on AT. My last car sold in 2 days and the buyer drove all the way from Aberdeen to Lincolnshire to get it, my phone was ringing constantly and it was a Vectra !

People try and ask dealer prices for private sales, it never works.

Its a bad time to sell.

I recently sold my 1998 Civic VTI-S and it took ages. About 3 months in total and this was a £1500 car. Add the time of year and the fact it was a 170bhp petrol which does 30mpg and it wasnt gonna sell within a day.

As above, ebay is not a place to sell if you want real value, its for the cheap bargin cars really. There are plenty of places to sell though. Autotrader, Exchange and mart, Trade it, gumtree, pistonheads etc etc.

People will still travel though, the guy who bought my civic spent over £100 on ferry and petrol to get to me and to take the car back.

Yeah I appreciate its no the best if time but I thought as payday has just been I would advertise it

My own fault really for using eBay. Think the general comments are about right eBay is definitely not the right place to advertise a quality car and expect decent money!!

Thought I'd try Pistonheads for a bit and see how we go on there. Cheers

good luck but I still believe u cant beat good old AT

could always be worse 2 of my friends have been stuck with there cars for atleast 6 months lol one got a focus st3 ( he says the 2.5ltr tag puts people off) ouch.

But the worst one is the other guy who bought a golf R32dsg PRE TAX CHANGE!!! about 6 months before..... so £450 for 12 months tax.... fook me!

good luck but I still believe u cant beat good old AT

Agreed.

Good luck with the sale!

450 for a golf! !!! wow thats range rover prices

Petrol or Diesel?

Got to be a bit of an enthusiast to chose a 2l petrol turbo with £250 a year tax these days.

Dealers don't want them because they sit on forecourts for too long. They'd rather have a 1.6d Focus, much easier to sell to Joe Bloggs

Pistonheads and here might be better choices since you're selling to a more interested market.
