You got very nice price then  .

Just for curiosity - what rims do you have?

They are the Audi Abitos rims..

Nice ones compared to my steel rims... now you made me very jealous.

Anyone wants to buy steel rims  ?

MC's are a great looking wheel and it's them and the dark glass on the Sport Passat that makes the Passat look so dam fine.

Nice wheels. Do you have a part number or name of the wheels please? This answers my wonderings about if the 16s will clear the brakes etc on the CR170.

16" alloys will clear the brake disc on a 170CR as I run 16" alloys with winter tyres

The casting number (on the outside edge of the rim) is:

KBA 46419

Audi part No. 4F0 071 496 666

They are 7”x16” ET42

Gizmo68, I assume this was from an Audi dealer then? Did you just rock up and ask for a quote with the Blizzaks?

Sorry for the late reply.

It was actually a VW dealer who was selling them, he advertised them on eBay, but I phoned him direct and got a better deal.

At the time he had several sets of them in stock.

Ideally I would have bought them without the tyres and then bought some Nokian's as they are FAR better, but for the price I paid I can't grumble.

Thanks Gizmo68. I think my way ahead is some aftermarket 16" alloys with the winters. Will be interesting to compare with the 18" wheels on as standard.

One bit of piece of mind I have with my winter wheels is that they are £45 steels, so if I do happen to slide into a kerb (oh the embarrassment), I know I can replace it quite inexpensively (appreciate I'd also need to get the tracking etc checked but that would be the case with an alloy as well).

Just a thought.

That is a fair argument, however once you have (decent) winter tyres fitted to them the chances of sliding anywhere are dramatically reduced… providing you are driving sensibly, for me I just couldn’t fit steels to the car for 4(+?) months of the year

How about fitting winter tyres onto your full size alloys, and leaving them on permanently?

They may wear a little quicker in the really warm weather (that will be 2 weeks per year then  :giggle:  ) but this is exactly what I would do if I didn’t have the option of running a second set of wheels.

Just pick a decent set (for me this would mean Nokian’s)

By running winter wheels all year round you increase your braking distance in the summer which is the opposite of what happens in the winter

 just search on Google

Fully agree Rab, using just one set of tyres means that they will be a compromise in either summer or winter.

Personally I would rather have that compromise in the months that I do not reach the limits of the car, for me that would mean running winter tyres in the summer, as it is easier to reach the limits of normal tyres in the winter than winter tyres when it is warm.

If you drive close to the limit of your cars/tyres grip, then it would not be a wise choice to run winters all year round… but for most people it will be fine, premium winter tyres in the summer will probably still brake in a shorter distance than a set of cheap and nasty budget ’summer’ tyres anyway.

But as I don’t have to make that compromise I will continue use winter tyres in the winter and ‘normal’ tyres when the temperatures are regularly above 7°

I managed to pick up a set of Superb 1 16" alloys from e-bay that I run my winter tyres on. I have no choice but to run two sets of tyres as its the law here in Germany. I don't think that it will be long before it becomes the law all over Europe due to the bad winters. I personal believe that although expensive running two set of tyres that it is worth it. I couldn't live with myself if I killed or badly injured somebody because I wanted to save a couple of pounds by running summer tyres in winter or winter tyres in summer.
