Wheel nuts :(

Featured Replies

Hey folks, went to get my uniroyals fitted today, got drivers side fitted, went to do passangers side and a wheel nut is broken :( The looking wheel nut won't come off because the the locking wheel nut key doesn't fit anymore and you can't get a grip, guessing when it went to farmers they used the gun thing on it :( The garage has proposed to put some heat on it and try free it off that way. Any other solutions ?

wheel nut removal tool. Brutal - destroys the bolt, but will get it off

Sometimes you can also hammer on a socket a bit too small on to it. Perhaps a 19mm?

Tyre depots usually have a universal key that undoes ALL locking wheel nuts.

you can smash a socket on to it or but a special left hand threaded socket that unscrews the bolt as it screws on .... sounds like the if the locking key doesnt fit then its ******

if it's the locking wheel nut, then they have a round outer edge, not hexagonal, so hitting a socket on it is pointless. Devonutopia's suggestion of wheel nut removal tool sounds better. That or a gas axe :D

drill the head off it and use a vice grips to remove it from the hub once the wheel is off

If the garage was the last ones to touch the wheels, I hope they're footing the bill for sorting it and supplying new locking nuts

If you use a removal tool like an easyout, get as large as you can get. Nut is torqued to 12oNM, and if it breaks ,they're made of very hard metal . Other possibliity is crude -chisel it loose ,if you can get a chisel on it .

I used a set of irwin nuts which are reverse threaded to remove my lockers.

I left my locking wheel nut at home when I travelled to r motion to have some things done (plonker) and they needed the wheel off. Luckily they had a tool which was like a socket and removed them with no damage

But a new wheel bolt and a socket extender and get a garage to tac the extender to the bolt and then use a ratchet/breaker bar to undo it.

Garage's suggestion of heat is good first step. Heating the rapid cooling may free the threads. If it doesn't work then you've not damaged anything.

Half inch extention brayed into them normaly grips thats all i uave ever done evan with customers cars

Ask your local dealer if they have a master set. I know that most VW dealers do.

problem is the actual nut is rounded off :( what yous think of the halfords thing ? http://www.halfords....tegoryId_255216

have a go .... its left hand thread so as it screws on it unscrews the wheel nut/ bolt but it will obviously require a new set .......

before buying ask in store to try and check it will fit your car not too big or small etc ..
