Yep that's right, I ticked over 40k mileage today...

Is it true what they say? Life begins at 40?

Meaning my car will start behaving like a race car before being chopped for the mid life crisis car??

EM

well I'm 42 mate and happy ;) and my car is 45k now :)

How much of that was done on the back of an AA trailer damo? ;)

None... I have RAC cover

hi everone, how much did all you 40k boys pay for your 40k service, i was quoted £340.00, that seems a bit steep, is this right, cheers.

It might be but what are they saying they are doing?

Is it,

Oil & Filter/Service, Sump Plug, Oil /Filter, Brake Fluid Change, Air Filter Replacement, Spark Plugs Replaced,

that can be easily £340.

george

not sure george but will find out for sure cheers.

my 40k was about £130, but I have changed the plugs 3,000 miles before the long brisky prauge trip, so they agreed not to change the plugs again....... its only a 10 minute job to change the plugs though..... (note I changed the high performance high temp plugs I put in for the sustained high speed runs through Germany and the nurburgring, back to standard VW proper spec plugs recently (about 43k) and they charged me £40 odd pounds for the plugs and nothing for the labour ;) )

I also didn't have a brake fluid change george..... isn't it 4 years for the fluid? me doing 40k in less than 3 years it isn't ness? I'm fairly sure the brake fluid went on years ...........

The brake fluid is 3 years and then 2 to the Skoda schedule.

Plugs 40,000, air filter etc.

The post never mentioned how old the car was needing the 40,000 mile service.

(unlikely on a vRS, but)

Some 40,000 mile cars might never have had the wheels off unless tyres changed, many 3 year old cars will never have had wheels removed unless corroded wheel replacements or fitting new tyres, winter wheels etc.

'Evils' car might have done 40,000, but the engine has not.

Skoda needs to write up the Service Books when new engines are installed, so that Future owners know the wear and tear on the cars components compared to the younger life of the Engine for anyone going into Dealerships or Independents.

Important for a few years down the line to know the Engines age and mileage. Mileometer will just be the cars, gearbox etc.

So if same as a 20,000/2 mile service at 40,000 miles.

£175 'Inspection' Oil and filter service. (maybe Pollen Filter again.)

£45 brake fluid change.

£45 Air filter

£60 spark plugs.

= £325 ish type quote might be what a Skoda garage will give.

*£335 if they are taking £55 for a replacement Air Filter.

*Always best to ask and find out what they are quoting for actually doing and what needs doing if not a standard Manufacturers Schedule, ie, you have stuff already done and not needing doing again.)

Fill your own washer bottle, save £4!

Plugs already changed, then no need for doing again unless they are checking and telling you, and they do need changed.

george

so it was right that at less than 3 years I didn't change the brake fluid. cool. they did change the air filter.... i did the plugs (again! lol) and my wheel s have been off many times.... changed to winters on OE alloys every year , and changed wheels (tyres) just for the prague trip and the ring.... so many many times...

all good.

as for iceman's Q its a fabia II vRS so surely must be less than 3 years as mine was an early 60 plate........ no brake fluid change... but + spark plug change compaired to my service, I would expect circa £200 ;)

Mine gets its MOT next month.

Not due untill the end of July, but its moving on.

Already had brake fluid changed.

george

time does move on... mine will need an MOT in September! :o been a long time since I last had to MOT a car! lol..
