Changed door handles

Featured Replies

Decided to change over my door handles from black to silver. Have slowly amassed all the necessary parts and with a printed version of Techies guide I set about it this morning.

Did the front drivers door without problems - so very pleased I didn't have to deconstruct the door and didn't lock myself out!

Started on the back door and found there is only one grommet and one T20 torx screw. Undid that and tried to get the blanking plate out but found it stuck fast.

Looked up previous threads and found I may just need to be a bit bolder so went to have another go.

Looking very good.

Makes a big difference.

Looks really good.

looks awsome :)

ive been thinking of doing this for a while do you have a link to the guide ?

Where did you source the bits, if you don't mind me asking??

Were they already in silver or did you have to paint them??

Nice work, looking like a very smart vrs.

Are these the same as Golf handles?

I think they are, trouble is the golf paint is a slightly different colour. I was sent a drivers door end cap and could notice the difference when I had the handles all laid out together.

I did wnder about Skoda superb handles as the silver must be the same but was fortunate to see these from an Octavia.

Actually no worries just found it!

Hey mate I'm sorry to disappoint you but the colour of those on eBay is Rally Red, it's different to the red on our Fabias.

I made the same mistake as you and the red is alot lighter. I actually went to Halfords a couple of hours ago and had the correct colour made up :)

Got some octavia ones that look to be a match :). If not it means I have a spare set to spray the correct colour anyway.

Have you fitted yours yet?

Been reading about doors "dead locking" :S lol!

You bought them off ebay tonight? For £8.50? I was watching them, i contacted the seller and the paint code came back as rally red.

Not yet mate they need spraying corrida red but ive got the paint.

Yes they are easy to dead lock as I dead locked one of mine! Such a PITA to fix!

Haha yeah they were the ones! Oh well I will need paint for my door strips too which I plan to do so not a disaster haha. Only found them late so i went for it. Cheers for letting me know save having the disappointment when I open the parcel :( lol.

Cool well good luck for when you do it you will have to post how it goes.

So how did you fix your deadlocked doors in the end?

Just trying to do mine now but the door handle isn't swinging out quite as easily as the instructions make it and i didn't see a cable of any kind when i took the lock off!!! :(

The cable is there mate, you see on the little clasp where the handle pops out. That plastic bits fits inside, that's the cable. (Where the notches are)

Make sure you make a mark of the exact position as too loose or too tight and the door will dead lock.

The cable is attached to the handle bit you still have in the door. It has a black plastic end which is slotted into the, what looks like, threaded part of the handle.

As Dan Ham has just replied while I am typing!

The handle then has to be moved forward slightly, towards the hole as you pull it open and then it will be able to be slid backwards.

Its hard to describe in words!

Do you think you could take some close ups of the cable position when you have it out? I'm hoping to do mine soon but a bit nervous about it! Lol

Looking good mate. Just need to lose the black rub strips now
