Changed door handles

Featured Replies

Managed to find it after posting, though cheers for replies. :)

Swapped them all over now but managed to break a little bit on the part inside the door (not a good weekend for me and my car!!) but it sits fine and i'll seap it over when the weather warms up and i've got the door apart to fix any possible leak issues.

Do you think you could take some close ups of the cable position when you have it out? I'm hoping to do mine soon but a bit nervous about it! Lol

Sorry mate, didn't see this until after i'd finished. :(

You'll be fine though. As said, mark the cable end with tipp-ex.

I also managed to drop a screw but thankfully got it back by taking the rubber bung thing at the bottom of the door off and using a telescopic magnet. :)

Lol pleased to hear you did it without any dead locking :). Will be sure to have my telescopic magnet to hand when I do mine haha

Cheers for your help with this Sam745.

It appears i spoke to soon because i found after locking the car and then unlocking it, i have to pull the handle twice before the drivers door opens, which also means i have to stick my arm out the window if i've driven somewhere and locked the doors as the handle inside doesn't open the door. :(

My brother took that one off and didn't remember where it was originally located, so it was a bit of guess work and didn't think anything of it because the door opens and closes fine when the doors haven't been locked.

Am i right in thinking that i just need to adjust the bowden cable???

Also, to replace the part inside the door itself (the bit the handle clicks into), will i be able to access it by taking off the interior door panel or is there more to it???

Maybe the cable has come loose from the handle, on the interior - can access it via removing the door card. One of my rear doors needs to be pulled twice before it opens properly as it was the first one I removed and didn't remember the location of the Bowden cable, I'll be putting mine a couple of notches tighter.

At least the door isn't dead locked! That's a right pain in the arse!!

Cheers, i'll check it out when i'm next home.

Youll need to remove the door carrier to replace the bit on the back of the door.

To sort the door handle out, youll need to put the handle in then put the clip into the handle itself so it sits flush to the door without any play.Dont put the lock bit in but close the door whilst holding the clip and cable in place and keep adjusting the slack in the cable by pulling the handle to open the door. Hold the cable in its place with your finger though.Youll get it right eventually.

I know its a little while since anyone has posted on here after getting my car back from the paintshop i have a deadlocked rear door the door unlock and locks but the door just doesnt open i dont really want to go smashing the doors mechanism up to get the door open anyone know a simple easier way rather than smashing or replacing the locking mech.

When I deadlocked my mum's passat I managed to take door panel off (it was loose after replacing a dead lock) and reach up inside and pull the cable and the door opened - right pita!
