Gear box oil

Featured Replies

Where is gear box plug located, which oil do you put in, is it best to drain old oil first never been done as far as i know. Car has done nearly 60,000 miles octavia vrs mk 1 any help appreciated.

Its in middle of box half way up on front of gearbox where behind power steering oil cooler pipes where they sort of go in a S.

You need a 17mm plug socket if i remember right

It is a 17mm plug socket you need.

I found the easiest way to refill it was use a piece of hosepipe with a funnel on the end and poke that down from the top of the engine and in through the hole. The car needs to be level when you fill it back up.

Make sure you can undo the fill plug before you remove the drain one!

Cheers for that great help guys

I'm just about to change my gear oil.

Everyone says to use the stuff supplied by the dealers. G60 I believe.

Bought 2 litres from my local skoda dealer and it came to just under £13. £5 for the plug key from halfords.

Get the correct oil from the dealer or you could end up with a sticky gear change.

It's basically like a 17mm allen key that you need.
