Fabia 1.4tdi / 1.9tdi which is the best

Featured Replies

Hi hope i am posting in the right place sorry if i am not

I have around 4k to spend likely I will buy a Skoda Fabia estate 1.4tdi or 1.9 tdi

I have seen a 2009 Greenline 1.4tdi 2 owners from new for sale 104k £4200 looks really well looked after just had cambelt and water pump done but the mileage really concerns me a mechanic said injectors fail on occasions

2007 1.9 tdo elegance 2007 76k on the clock £3500 2 owners cambelt changed

or skoda 2007 bohemia 36k on the clock £3850 no brainer is this the one to go for 1.9tdi ?

Just not sure ?????????

1.9tdi

Agreed. 1.9tdi is superior in every way.

1.4 is a lively little beast. Says 75 BHP 0n the box, but behaves more like something a bit beefier. 1.9 is possibly superior, but the 1.4 is lighter on the front end, so better handling on tight roads. possible best of both worlds- remap a 1.4to 100 and uprate the front brakes. But that's my experience of a 2004 1.4 over 80k.

Its never quite going to be as good as the 1.9 though is it....which would map to 130/140 (similar to a stock vRS) if you are really looking to compare apples and pears.

Although I don't think you can go far wrong with either TBH (either way better than a stock SDI)

Just depends how much economy you want versus "punch". If its more punch then the bigger engine, simples.

Trying to get economy , also have concerns with purchasing a vehicle 1.4 tdi with 104k on clock but as its a 2009 plate fsh and well maintained do you think just a matter of time before things go wrong?

I'd go for the 1.9TDI.

The 100hp 1.9tdi is better on fuel too.

I've got a 1.4TDI, main reasons for me buying it were low insurance and running costs. I wouldn't recommend it if you do a lot of motorway driving as I feel the engine is quite 'worked' at 70mph; 2600rpm at 70mph and 3000rpm at 80mph - I don't like keeping it at such high revs for very long because it just doesn't feel right. That said though, I find it a great little car; it's fairly nippy, feels solid, handles well and returns excellent MPG. Also, it doesn't have a dual mass flywheel so that's one less expensive part to worry about :)

Hi thanks for that really useful trying to get something which is economical , do some motorway mileage about 120 miles per week and some town driving can i ask what age it is ? I am looking at an 08 Plate

I test drove both back to back in 2008.

I couldn't believe how smooth the 1.9TDI felt after the 1.4TDI.

Funny considering that the 1.9 seems a bit agricultural now we have the CR diesels.

For economy if you drive everywhere at 60mph I'd go for the 1.4

For absolutely any other reason I can think of it's 1.9 all the way.

1.9 tdi for me

I've got an elegance estate, brilliant car changed a few bits n bobs mapped it and it goes quite a bit better than a standard vrs :) and puts a smile on my face on the motorway and for some reason it's got a long ratio box so sits very happy at higher speeds and still returns me a happy 50mpg around town and 60-65mpg driving average on the motorway

Where did you get your map done?

Mines only a generic map from pd developments, I would like to get a live map done to be honest but haven't got the £££ at the mo

Was told it should be around the 130-135 mark, I've got a few little bits n bobs done decat mufflerectomy pd130 manifold egr delete pipe and also got the bigger vrs t.i.p to go on

My friend has a furby vrs and my pd 100 pulls nicely away from it

Nice smooth map tho not spikey at all good smooth strong pull right up to the red I would recommend him very helpful guy

1.9 TDi all the way. Had a new at the time 2001 estate which I sold in Feb this year. Was a brilliant car and engine and never missed a beat. Lovely torquey engine that devoured hills and motorway and was great on fuel. I tried a 1.4TDi and that was great also. I agree on comments that if you use motorways allot it can feel a little strained when the 1.9TDi just doesn't. Good strong engine the 1.9TDi which will give years of reliable service.

I do around 300-500 miles a week in mine; usually around 290 A-roads at 60mph, 200 on the motorway and the rest in town. Mine is a 54 plate, the main reason I got it over the 1.9 is the cheaper insurance (often a deciding factor when you're 19!)

1.9TDi all day long. You don't even need a remap to get ~ 130bhp if you spank 'em IME :D

Have you considered looking at a MK2 1.9?

...

I am not familiar with the MK2 1.9, but I've driven the 1.6 TDI MK2. IMO, it is somewhere in between performance and fuel consumption. In city driving I was getting about 40mpg. I never had the option to take it on the motorway, but I'm guessing it should go somewhere around 63mpg.

All diesel engines are delivering savage, raw power, lots of torque and stuff, but this particular one impressed me more than the 1.9 for some reasons, I can't tell you why.

The dark side of this equation is that MK2 is way, way uglier than the MK1.

1.9. Just search on here for 1.4 oil chain failure. 1.4 - when it fails don't expect skoda /vw to help in any way.

The 1.9 in the MK2 was only available up to about 2009 when the 1.6 replaced it.

They are a PD105 engine and quite similar to the older PD100 engine but updated to meet newer euro emissions standards etc.

The 1.6 is very different to the 1.9. Same power and toruqe but much smoother/linear delivery of it.

1.9 TDI defiantly ! Its more of a tank then an engine! Just keeps going!
