whats needed for head gasket change

Featured Replies

right so looking like hg gone so looking to so far change

head gasket

timing belt kit

anything else needed other than that'?

im going to do a service while engines in bits may aswell do everything at once

New head bolts mate

Does the head need a skim?

SN

I guess if you keep the head complete, there's no need to replace any other bolts but the headbolts. If you were taking out/refitting injectors, or working on the cam, there's a few stretch bolts that need replacing.

nothing along those lines mate im just repacing gasket thats it so head bolts aswell thanks guys i heard skimming pd engines not a good idea?

VAG say no skimming, thing is from the factory 3 different HG thicknesses are used, depending on what was used and how much of a skim you should be able to compensate for a skim.

If your going through all the trouble of taking the head off, if it was me... I'd be taking all the valves out and grinding them back in to make sure you have perfect compression and the best performance you can get.

Might as well take the manifold off and polish it all up while its off the head. Probly a few other things you could do while the engines in bits, chances are it won't be off again and you won't get the chance again.... Get the head so you can eat your dinner of it!
