VRS Timing belt fail!

Featured Replies

Hi, I am Octavia VRS owner. I purchased my Skoda Octavia VRS Petrol last May and it is 2009 (59), the warranty ran out end of September.

I drove my car home on Friday night and there was no problem, but started it up this morning for the first time but it was turning over like a bag of **** then it stopped turning over all together and was making a beeping noise from the engine. I have had it checked unofficially by a friend who is a mechanic and he saying it sounds like the timing belt.

Can anyone tell me if Skoda would be liable for this bearing in mind the car only has 42000 miles on the clock and I have been the owner of this car for about 8 months and I also purchased the car from an approved used dealer, any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Mark.

Sounds like the dreaded tensioner has given up. Seems to be getting more common of late.

Welcome to the forum! it sounds like the timing chain tensioner has failed, have a look in the octavia 2 section, there is a post about it,if your car has a full skoda history you may get a goodwill repair.

Welcome, sorry to hear of your problems with the car, as mikey vrs said there is a thread on the octavia forum that i posted about this problem as i've heard several owners with the same symptoms as yourself and the cause being failure of the chain tensioner.

Cheers everyone for your responses. Do you think its just a case of replacing that tensioner as I haven't moved the car at all?

Cheers Mark.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Sorry to hear of what happened, let's hope Skoda will help you with it.

What was the outcome of this? Also, what gearbox does your car have?
