TSI 105 DSG fuel economy?

Featured Replies

Bit of an update, got it back from service at 1pm.

VW garage updated the software, apparently theres been a issue with the turbo pressure control, this software update should have been done by the skoda dealer that sold us their ex-demo vehicle!

Anyway it sat on the drive for a couple of hours then it went out for the school run, so the oil not freezing but not warm, 40.5mpg! Its been doing 25mpg beforehand.

Good news :)

Did you buy the car october 2012?

Did they tell you when the software update was released?

Only had my 1.2 tsi DSG a week and on the mid range runs I have managed 46 MPG ave. I am finding the car to be quite capable and suited very well to town driving. Round town on short hops once up to temp the car is giving me between 30 and 32 MPG ave. Guess the real test for mine will be once we head off on the Motorway for a longer run. Should my 2011 car be doing More round MPG round town? 5K on the clock.

This is starting to sound like the 1.6 CR bashing thread...let's see if we can get it to 22 pages (or whatever it was).

You're driving it wrong.

It's broken.

My favourite (and serious answer) - petrols these days are being squeezed - more power, from smaller engines, with less emissions = economy hasn't improved as much. I

No quite, but I see where you are coming from. Petrol is defo more powerful, and defo much more efficient now with huge reductions in emissions of all kinds. By definition that means better economy as less fuel is burned for each given powerstroke. Or it should be, but there are the variable again aren't there! As the boundaries are stretched regarding fuel economy the way the car is driven and how the car is loaded, type of journey, length of journey, trafific conditions etc is so so important in how many miles per gallon you get. Much more so than in cars from even just 6-7 years ago. So many variables. The AA tell us that in the last five years petrol cars alone have improved their fuel economy by at least 20%. But to get those fuel economy improvements requires more input from the driver and drivers need to understand the variables much better to get that reduced fuel economy.

I spoke to a very irrate gentleman just 3 days ago who had been running a 1.6 petrol Golf. Someone had directed him to me for a chat. He had changed to a 1.2 HTP 70PS Fabia. He was incandesant with rage at the garage because the Skoda 1.2HTP would only mange 29mpg on his trip to work on the motorway. His Golf managed 40mpg with a bigger engine. He was abusive and frankly a twit into the bargain. But it turned out after he had calmed down that he was used to cruising his Golf at 80mph on the M4 for his commute. He was doing the same in the Skoda with obvious results. He really had no idea that what he was doing was stupid if he wanted to get good fuel economy in the Skoda. He really could not understand the science behind it. I have since leaned he has posted elsewhere some nasty old posts about the car online and others who read that will get the wrong impression. He's left out the bit about how he speeds. And frankly, that happens a lot. Not suggesting for one minute that Gazmalman is treating his car like that, but I'm just saying that everyone has different idea's about this subject but not everyone actually seems to understand the stuff they need to know and it's effects. I reckon Gazmalman's fuel economy could be ok but we don't know too much about his driving and usage.

Love to know how you're getting that!

Also are you using the trip computer or actually calculating it properly? I find the trip computer is fairly inaccurate and doesn't match the true mpg I actually get.

Snowman- update was announced around june i was told? so should have been done IMHO

Estateman- I understand the principles of driving for economy and do so 95% of the time (sometimes you have to get places quicker!), i'm well aware that driving at 80 is a lot less fuel efficient than 60, more so with a small engine and golf guy sounds a twit.

Anyway since the service and software update/reboot the car is miles better, wether it was just in need of fresh oil or software. Had 51.5mpg out of it on a mixed run from cold into the city from mine the other day, about 3 miles stop go town driving and 7 on the motorway, same journey was returning about 39mpg pre service . And its doing 30-33mpg on the school run, which was more like 24mpg before. Really what I was expecting from the car, I'm chuffed with the little thing now.

Really good news Gazmalman. I know what you mean about getting somewhere a bit quicker sometimes too! :giggle:

Jarre- Just going on the trip at the moment will give better and more accurate figures at fill up. Still on the first fill at moment.
