The wierd and wonderful noises my vRS makes

Featured Replies

Basicly it made a funny noise on friday when the dial sweep was doing its business as if the motors were being over stressed (sort of a clicky sound) and when this happened the amundsen decided to do a factory reset all by its self so the sat nag woman came on again. Que much fiddling with it.

The other wierd noise it made was on sunday morning when I started it and it sounded like there was something metallic rattling but when I blipped the throttle a few times and each time it dissappeared but reappeared as soon as it returned to idle. It only lasted for about 20 secs but its annoys me that I don't know what it is.

Anybody got any ideas as to what they are? Its going in to the garage on thurs and fri for some other work so I have already mentioned it to them.

Both of mine make / made some bizarre noises:

a clicking hoise when idling and stationary like a relay switching from somewhere behind the glove box.

flapping noise from behind the heater controls when the car is first started (possibly the ventilation system controls)

The new one - a sound that is like an oversized PC reading or writing to the hard drive, again only noticeable when I start it up. Not noticed when the engine is warmed up and am stationary, but that doesn't mean it isn't there just not noticed / listened out for it.

Is yours a TSI Stu? Mines a TSI, and it also has a metallic noise, it's got a little louder now so I'll make sure they check it out when it goes in for a service later this year.

I think it's a clip that goes near the exhaust / heat sink? Sounds a little like am M3? lol

Crikey you guys are obsessed with noises!

just ignore the fact it says TFSI. The noise is the turbo waste gate actuator rod the TPI number is 2028098/1. All you should have to do is give your dealer this TPI number and they fit a spring clip to the rod to stop the rattle. Mine and my brothers have both had this fix.

Does this apply to the CR diesel as well?

I don't think it does. I think it's Tsi only unfortunately

rattling engine? That's be imminent timing chain tensioner failure! :)

The cr has a belt not chain. And my car does this too. Only on a cold start does it once or twice a week. And also disapears with revs or after few seconds.

Let me know if you ever find the cause stu as I want mine sorted.

My Blackline exhibits a mild belt squeek on first start every now and again; normally if its really cold or damp. Goes away if you rev it lightly just the once. Probably one of the auxilary belts.

Sounds like a common thing thats not worth getting hung up about.

My car makes that interesting noise from a cold start too. Goes after a blip of the throttle.

Maybe, but it's an omen; somewhere, sometime tomorrow, someones chain will fail.

Pardon?

I definitely get thr clicking relays sound when at thd lights on tickover it's as if the car is some how checking all its components ... Strange

The roads round here are terrible. I was going down gordon's mills road the other day and there were potholes in the speed bumps :o wtf?!?!?

Ps. If you see my car there make sure that they are treating her nicely :) She won't be to hard to spot considering she doesn't have a dashboard :(

I'm just glad that I don't live in tilly. The local yoofs didn't look as if they liked my car very much.....

I quite like my car the way it is (except for the fact that I can't drive it at the minute)

My petrol TSi also makes the PC hard drive noise occasionally too. Was passing dealership this week and noticed it again so dropped in. Tech checked and reckons it is an issue with the air intake flap sticking and the motor trying to open/close it that is making the noise.

Warranty expires this week so they logged fault and booked in for warranty repair next week. Must say can't fault recent service from dealership who were also nothing but helpful when it came to first MOT too. Refreshing.
