Problems running VAG COM USB with Windows XP

Featured Replies

Anyone know how I can get my laptop to recognise my KKL interface, please?

It first appeared as a "KKL interface" with a yellow !!! mark, but now its just down in the USB list as "unknown device" and no driver can be found for it. Even asking it to look in my C:vag com directory doesn't help out.

I'm using the downloaded version from Ross-tech so I know the version of VAG com is right (i think :D), but either way, my laptop doesn't recognise the OBD2 connector, so VAG COM isn't able to do anything. :(

Serial ports work so much better ....

My new lappy doesn't even have one, so its USB or nothing at all. :( Unless there's a USB to serial convertor? But then I'd need a serial cable too. :)

Serial cables are plentiful and very easy to solder up thanks to using old-skool male/female connectors. Trouble is, VAG-COM doesn't work too well with a USB->Serial converter, so you'd be looking at buying a PCMCIA serial card. For the money that costs, you could probably buy a cheap dedicated laptop ;)

Have you not sorted that out yet J.

Did you get a driver from the guy who sold it?

The guy I got it from directed me to some German site for auto software, and I downloaded the version of VAG COM he said, but I don't think the issue is with VAG com - Its with XPs ability to recognise my connector.

I was kind of hoping some else with VAG COM using a USB cable, had a driver that I could borrow. (not convinced the German/English combo from my cable's source is working well)

Give us the link mate and I'll take a look.

It looks like if you have the AI K1-K2 Plus

Paste the link into this page - http://www.google.co.uk/language_tools?hl=en

http://www.auto-intern.de/module-pagesetter-viewpub-tid-13-pid-4.html

Then you could try the later version (Dodgy Translation!!)

Description: Vag com version 504 in English. Current release version. Note: The file is 3.70 MT.

Only for users with self self activating DIAGNOSTIC interface (dongle interface) like our OBD2-Tester Standard3, Pro3, K1-k2 plus or K1-k2+can, or like Ross Techs key com, or Hex com.

Looking here -

http://www.auto-intern.de/module-pagesetter-viewpub-tid-13-pid-6.html

All of their interfaces are self activating.

The readme reads a little like this for installing which I'm assuming you done correctly -

Step by Step

1. If you received the program by download, simply run the EXE file you downloaded in order to install the program. If you received it on a CD, put the CD into your CD-ROM drive and wait until you see a selection screen where you can select the program version you wish to install. Alternatively, you can directly run the SETUP504EN.EXE file on the CD in the \VAG-COM\ENGLISH\VERSION504 folder. After starting the Setup you will be asked, in which folder the program should be installed. Default by Windows-Standard is C:\PPROGRAM FILES\VAG-COM-EN. The program files will then be copied into the folder of your choice.

Note: You must put VAG-COM on your' PC's hard disk -- it will not work properly if you try to run it from a floppy or CD.

After the installation is finished you will find a new sub-folder called VAG-COM ENGLISH in the PROGRAMS folder of your start menu. In this sub-folder, the options VAG-COM, VAG SCOPE, MANUAL and README will be displayed. VAG-COM starts the program, VAG SCOPE starts the graphing plugin of VAG-COM as a separate program by which you can graph logged measuring block data, MANUAL opens a detailed manual for the program in PDF format and README opens this README file.

You may also start the program directly from the EXPLORER by double-clicking on the file VAG-COMXXX.EXE found in the program directory you chose during installation. The manual is to be found in the file VAGCOM-MANUAL.PDF in the sub-folder MANUAL of the program directory.

2. Connect your diagnostic adapter (your interface) to the computer. In case of the common adapters without USB connector it is the 9-pin female serial connector which must be plugged into one of the serial connectors of your PC.

Note: Most older PCs have 2 serial connectors which are called COM1 and COM2. Plug your adapter into one of them and use the TEST function explained below in order to determine, if it is COM1 or COM2. On newer PCs, there often is not more than 1 serial connector anyway.

If you are using one of our diagnostic adapters with USB connector or our USB-Serial-Adapter you must now plug the USB plug of the adapter into the USB connector of your PC, and afterwards you will have to install the USB drivers. Instructions for installation can be found in the file called USB-DRIVER-INSTALLATION-ENGLISH.RTF in the USB directory on our software CD.

Does that help at all mate?

  • 4 weeks later...

Devonutopia - did you get this one cracked mate? I have a similar sort of snag with VAG-Com and XP.

Thanks and Rgds
