Glow-plug light flashing occasionally

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have owned my fabia vRS for the 3 months or so and I'm loving it so far (massive improvement for a 1.2 corsa)

For the last week the glow plug light has been flashing but only for 10 minutes or so and not on every journey, I have looked at some of the other topics on this, but none seem to be an intermittent problem. Can anyone offer any advise??

I've got a feeling this can be related to the engine speed sensor. It's usually a failed brake light switch pedal. Best to get the car scanned

As Dave says. Also, get someone to check your brake lights. If none of them work, then you need a new switch anyway. Get it from a Skoda dealer and not fleabay.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I forgot to mention that I had checked the brake lights already and they are all fine!

Will try and get it diagnosed this week as get paid tomorrow :). I probably don't want to know but any idea on the worst case scenario? And how much it would cost?

I'm no tech but from owning a Fabia for 4 years, can say it's probably a sensor and it's probably a cheap fix so don't be too concerned. I think the crankshaft sensor brings on the EPC light so probably isn't that.

You could buy a VCDS OBD cable from eBay for under £10 and get the lite version of VCDS for free to scan yourself

Snap ;) crank shaft sensor (g28) on mine ,not top bad of a job, if you'd small handed!

I would thoroughly recommend contacting Unit 18 - one of our Sponsors - who are at Wolverton. They have the expertise and incredibly competitive labour rates.

Thanks for all the advice, I took it to my mates garage and he scanned it for me. Even tho the brake lights worked, the problem was the brake switch :S he advised a decent new one would be around £45 so not bad at all.

Is that fitted? You can get the part for under a tenner...

He said the cheapy ones will only last a couple of months, and that it is best to get an official one. That price was off the top of his head so maybe slightly out.

Has anyone had any experience with the cheap switches?

Just bought a new one of these for my polo as it was doing exactly as you described with the glow plug light flashing occasionally. Though I did usually have brake lights, it was an intermittent problem. Paid £13.99 for a genuine part.
