So many different LED W5W

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a decent LED for sidelights? SMD etc, there are so many, and none branded, hard to decide what to get !

Or is it best just to get a legal option like Philips Blue Vision Ultra Sidelight

Already got Philips Xtreme Visions coming soon

Thanks !

i need to know what bulbs to put in my main lights what you got are they H7s and where'd ypu get them from?

Well you answering a question with a question there lol

Philips Xtreme Vision H7 like I said in the post, £20 from Amazon. £10 more than the Osram Nightbreaker Plus but apparently worth the extra spend

I'm way off from going to full Xenon yet, this is my first venture to better lights so no point totally skimping, might we well try the best

Now, back to the post on what is a good buy on W5W

My vote goes to the 1w led version which has one single big led with heat sink.

I've had mine in for years, swapped over from previous car. Ebay jobby for me.

I didn't like the multi led ones as to me they look like Christmas lights..

That's what i used to use as well. I also had a pair in my map lights.

All multi led DRL'd up now in the Audi, can't miss them. They even dim slightly

when indicating on whatever side is using the indicator bulb. B)

I'm loving them although it took a little while to acquire the taste.

Why did you get CANBUS error free out of interest?

From what I have read its not necessary at all because it doesn't cover the sidelights (apparently)...just stop, tail light, main beam ?

As for the single LED...no bloody idea where they are. Probably making a mistake looking just on ebay, but I think they may be more rare now.

I was thinking of these...

or these even to take a punt on, for next to nothing, if I don't get on with them could still use them as interior

The first link is what I had, pretty bright. Throwaway money, good construction

and don't look gash in the cluster. For that money man just buy them...

I fitted mine in the first 3 months of owning my Fabia and took them out over 3 years

later when I sold it again. In my experience they were very good and great value.

The ones in the second link won't last 5 minutes in the cluster with the heat of the

headlamps. They'll either fail or start turning blue (Then fail...)

The first ones are much better constructed, and £3 delivered for a pair. Get yer paypal out.

Yup, these ones ----> http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f18a52b42

Daytime pic but you can see how white they were quite well in the

left headlight cluster. They also fit easily through the holes ;)

Cool, done mate ! Cheers

My Ferby will be blinging.....with both the LEDS and Philips coming lol

I'm more bothered about up front lighting, should I get the light bug and check other illumination possibilities next lol...

Silver indicator bulbs next then :)

I had these although I don't know whats up with the picture

on their website as they look black :S there.

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/581-PY21W-Silver-Indicator-bulbs.html

These were also fitted when the picture above was taken.

Been trying to find an equivalent for my Audi (Unsuccessfully so far :( )

as I hate the fried egg look.

I didn't buy them because they were canbus bulbs, I liked the look of them coz they weren't cheap & nasty looking like some of the other bulbs and they have 5 LED's on in total. Glad I picked them above all the others, suppose it's down to personal choice and what takes your fancy.

Got those lights today and fitted them £3 led sidelights in ....man they are bright ! They have got to be better value than the Philips / 100% brighter bulbs really

You could drive around on those without even putting those on a lot of the time (just before dawn dusk etc) ... saves killing the headlights at times you don't really need full H/L but they are bright enough to still stand out ...hope they don't dazzle though

Wouldn't want them any brighter as they could be a distraction otherwise, they are just about right

Any pictures? Might get involved myself.

Nope...complete U turn on them TBH wouldn't waste the time with these

Got back from a LONG trip and I thought I had tripped a fuse, neither was on as I'd started driving on main and decided to switch to sidelights later on in the journey (back)

After a bit of diagnosis the circuit is STILL live so no fuse gone. Pulled them out and replaced with the yellow fuses and bingo, lights on.

After a bit more faffing it seems they JUST come on when it pushes in first contact but doesn't seem to retain connection correctly and once pushed in properly, not staying off.

Also one of them seems to have developed some play in the very thin wire coming from it, I doubt the wire should move at all so its probably faulty.

EDIT: its actually got some internal parts rattling loose about in it

They aren't totally faulty but I'm not at all happy they don't come on when pushed firmly home (like normal bulbs). What am I supposed to do, fiddle about with them to get them to fit/work?

I'm going to ask to see what they can do. If they don't sort it out then rather than recommend them I think I will name and shame them instead (firm but fair). They weren't expensive but thats not the point, they SHOULD work.

DONT buy these yet.

Ok cheers for heads up :) thinking about some Cree LEDs now.

I ended up buying these, not had chance to try sidelight but they work a treat to replace the interior map reading lights, so if you do decide not to use them as sidelights give that a try. Might save you binning them!

If you want high power LEDs then I recommend these

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4845b7f1f0

Not cheap but very good, only problem you will have to pair the side down very slightly to get them to fit as they are a bit of a tight fit in the mounting hole.

So pics - first two with flash on the next two off.

ONLY Side lights on nothing else

Hope this help making your mind up.
