Does Columbus Nav system now support bluetooth audio?

Featured Replies

As title says, does the newer Yetis with Columbus Sat-Nav head unit support Bluetooth audio - or to be more specific is it all connected up and works as the Bolero supported Bluetooth but I was lead to believe Skoda never connected the bluetooth receiver under the drivers seat to the head unit for audio, just phone.

Also, does it really support TV in the car? I guess not in UK as I don't think we transmit DAB-T...

Ta.

I currently have a Bolero, waiting for a Columbus in the new car L&K, but understand that BT works the same as with the Bolero, connects to the phone and streams audio. The TV needs an additional module and would only work when the car is travelling at less than 5mph (unless you use a script to modify the firmware)

I can't see the manual with the DAB on the document portal but I keep looking:

The Columbus has always been connected to the Bluetooth if fitted, but very early cars were unable to BT stream, but that was fixed about 2 or more years ago. It wasn't a problem with the Columbus, more to do with something else. It affected the Bolero as well.

I have been able to BT stream since new in my December 2010 Elegance.

I get the bluetooth symbol appearing on the aux menu when I select 'media' but its greyed out. Can anyone advise on how to get it connected. Mines an April 2010 car so Im hoping its possible. :)

Start playing your paired phone and then press the. BT icon if it has 'gone solid'. If not you have one of the early cars that don't unfortunately.

I'm not sure what can be done to make it work. Possibly a later BT module?

My current April 2010 Bolero shows the BT option within the menus but it has never worked.

Excellent news - I will be getting a new Yeti in May/June so it sounds like BT streaming will be all working now.

I just hope the Samsung Galaxy S3 is more reliable with the newer head units compared to my current 2010 Bolero.

I'm also interested to know about the TV tuner function. At the time of ordering our L&K at the end of January, there was no option from Skoda to have the TV tuner bits fitted but then again there was no mention of this function either. In fact, the description of the Columbus unit according to Skoda is sat-nav with DAB radio - not even a mention of the fact that it can play DVDs too.

What exactly is required for the TV function to work and why don't Skoda not only mention the capability but also that separate equipment is required? More to the point, if extra equipment IS required then why don't Skoda offer this as an option?

Agreed that the description and specification of the Columbus unit is appalling, as are the other head units they offer. Not even the basic information let alone more interesting stuff - very poor selling job. Nothing much in the ICE and Security section either that I can see.

This is an after market item I've seen but I have no experience of either the Columbus or this unit (£559):

As far as I know there is no such thing as DAB-T. There's T-DAB, which is the terrestrial spectrum allocated to Digital Audio Broadcasting, and which of course is already used in the UK. I believe that DAB can deliver video, but I'm not aware of that being adopted anywhere as a primary delivery mechanism for mobile TV.

The main terrestrial mobile TV technologies are, I believe, DMB and DVB-H and you're right that no-one is transmitting either of those in the UK at the moment. DVB-H was endorsed by the EU as the "preferred technology for terrestrial mobile broadcasting" but it looks quite likely to be superseded by LTE (ie 4G) as a de facto 'standard'.

DVB-T, which is what all our terrestrial telly in the UK in broadcast on these days, is not well suited for mobile applications.

I'm more than happy to be corrected if my understanding of any of the above is incorrect or out of date!

My 2009 Yeti Bolero won't stream music via Bluetooth....I'd love to know if anyone's manged to "activate" it

Hi ejstubbs,

The factory and after market are dvb- t as far as I can see, not and expert and as I've indicated I currently do not own a Columbus.

Hi BobbyG79,

It might need a firmware update, my 2010 worked OK with an iPhone 3gs not tried with my current phone as I found it easier with sdhc card.

Had a quick delve into the internet, apparently my Bluetooth module doesn't support BT-Stream, and I require the "5N0 035 730D" module which is apparently plug & play.

I shall be delving back into the internet to try and get my hands on one!
