Front hub needed

Had my car in at the garage today and have found out i need a new hub. I dont have the money at the minute to buy a new one. Can anybody out there help me?? Ive been looking at breakers for a second hand one but nobodys got back to me. Is there anybody on here breaking an octy vrs that can help me out??

It was a nearside one, i have managed to get one of group1rs on here for 25 quid. Its had 4 tyres on it today, it needs this hub fitting then i need to replace thermostat and coolant temp sensor. Then theres bodywork to sort out, good job i got her cheap

Out of interest. What's wrong with the hub ?

I had it in at work today as i noticed the nearside front wheel was sat in an inch at the top. After looking close at it i decided to go down the cheaper option and replace the shocker for a new one hoping that would cure it, but it hasnt. We believe its the hub thats bent, how its happened we have no idea.

Tryed a new shocker today and still sat in at the top of the wheel. If i put it on a ramp at work and look at the gap between wheel and strut, i can get one finger between on passenger side and two fingers on drivers side. Theres about an inch difference. When its sat on the ground you can tell really bad

i'd inspect and get the measuring tape out to try and find out what is bent rather than guessing..

Had it in my bodyshop and theres no visible damage anywhere. Checked legs and there straight, inner wings and subframes straight. Just looks like either wrong hub or its been bent. I will soon know when i recieve the new hub on tuesday.

its kinda hard to tell from the pic, though it looks perhaps like a tiny bit of camber, but mabe thats a placebo effect, as i know you are having issues so i can see it if that makes sense.

however, the hubs are cast, so not likely to bend, the associated parts, ie wishbones, struts, or subframe, would bend/get damaged before the hub i would imagine. Is the strut fitted in the hub properly? has it had any suspension work lately?

The hub is hefty piece of metal, it would take a lot to to throw that off, and were talking the wheel leaving the car whilst driving and smashing into the deck to cause any damage to the hub.

Only time I have come across a hub replacement is because the bolts have been cross threaded.

But that's not to say its never happened.

Just a thought, and I haven't read deep into the above posts but by the looks of it the car has been lowered.

Now below is a double wishbones, to give you an idea.

Loose the top wishbone for starters. The idea of the top is to keep those wheels slap bang on the surface. Loose the top and you begin to have negative camber.

If its not the same on both sides then have you mounted a curb or hit a pot hole recently or even had either wishbones changed???

Also you can see the hub, see what I mean :D

as said, i doubt its the hub, these hubs arent threaded either, you have a top and bottom bolt holding the strut, with a locating tab, just wondered if that was out, as if not the strut wouldnt be correctly seated in the hub

Would be shocked if hub is bent as cast just cracked or breaks !!

Cant see any accident damage, i tryed a shocker on and it was still the same. Bottom arm measurements are correct. Think im just going to have to stick this hub on and see what happens. If its not shocker or hub then the only other thing to change would be bottom arm

It maybe worth getting a jack from a friend, get the whole front end lifted and carefully see if the arms or end or track rods are buckled slightly.

Its easy for a garage to say its this or that.

Or as an option take it to a specialist wheel laser tracking garage and have them get it on a ramp. Could be something as simple as it being tracked.

Ask for an inspection 1st. They are usually the people that can see what no mechanic can, They are like hawks :angel: :angel: :angel:

Ive had it on the ramps at work(work for a garage you see), we have checked wheel alignment etc and its fine, its just that the wheels sat in at the top, ive put a new shocker on and its still the same. The bottom arm measurements are correct and not bent, rack ends are fine. The only other thing we can possibly think it is, is the hub

That is odd. Give the hub a go and let us know........ I shall gasp in shock if its the hub.

Failing that get a sledge and start smashing the sod mwahaha :D

that is an odd one, will be interested to hear what it is, recon you need an alignment as suggested to see whats what

Hmm if all you can tell is the gap between each arch and tyre is different and you have checked lower wishbone, camber, is ok both sides, no shock strut damage then maybe the wing has been replaced and was put back slightly different to other side.

Just a suggestion.
