Right Inidcator problem

Featured Replies

OK my indicator problem happens intermittently.

Hazard lights work fine left indicator fine its only the right thats not playing ball.

I have renewed the indicator stalk this afternoon then this eve used the car and right indictor still wont work,

It works fine when key is in exhaust but not when i turn on engine.

Anyone got any ideas

PLEASE

Thanks in advance Peter

Thats strange,,,

Have you tried taking the lights out and checking the plug into the lights? Not sure if it'll have any link to the whole key in ignition barrel thing but its worth a try. mine went weird when i didnt connect them up properly.

I dont think it would be the bulb as the hazards work, and this morning i could get them to stop working (for diagnostics) it was only this eve that it stopped working again, and its strange that's one side

Hum, I wonder if the indicator bulb fitting into the indicator pod is the same as the Polo 9N, wife's car had this problem, changed bulb, still intermittant, eased out contacts, still intermittant! Eventually got fed up and removed headlamp assembly and moved the wiring forword to where the bulb actually fits, problem solved. In the Polo 9N the bulb gets fitted into an adaptor and the adaptor gets fitted into the supply socket - rubbish design, I'd reckon that a dealer would have replaced the headlamp assembly to sort it. BTW it was the O/S front fitting that was faulty on that car, but I've never heard of any other user having that problem. You say the hazards work okay, that was what I thought - but when I switched them on in a dark garage, the front O/S was intermittant.

Off course if it's both the front and rear indicator that is not working, then you have a different problem.

Thanks for the replies,

sorry for my ignorance but what is O/S?

Offside - ie the side of the car furthest away from the kerb,

Phoned one garage who suggested an auto electrician,

Do people think this is the best course of action?

Either roll your sleeves up and try some basic checking with connectors, fuses etc, or go the expensive way with an auto electrician.

DB.

Have you checked if it is only one bulb that is stopping working intermittantly, and if it's the same when the hazards "seem" to be working okay?

what exactly was the issue, the computer problem?

Since this topic is related to indicator lights, I will write down my problem here, maybe you can help me. The left - front fender/side indicator has some water in it and it started to get green-ish. Does anyone know how to unmount it in order to clean it ? Will I have to unmount the front wheel arches to reach it ?

You don't need to remove the whole wheel arch liner , just the spline socketed screw nearest the side repeater, bend the liner out the way, slide your hand in and squeeze the clip on the back of the repeater gently then push it out of the wing.
